was wellington airport closed because it was more SW and so a cross wind??

Not the case usually, unsure about this one. More likely cloudbase, or (much less likely) gustiness. Strong southerlies in W'gton are usually between SSW and SSE, though Wahine day had some places peaking from around 210. True SW gives sheltering from S I ranges.

it was a very cyclonic low, i.e circular,and so the flow was parralell to the kaikoura and wairapa coast lines...and so was not like a southerly ....for wellington....hence my thinking...

The 8/8 cloud is back this morn to be followed by Galeforce winds again and rain...... :evil:
