Re: General February Weather
Yes, it's been a lovely coupla weeks. The weather at Lake Taupo was just fantastic for us last WE and it has been cloudless for the time that we were away...
(noticed a wee bit of steam coming out of Tongariro driving back on the Sunday)
...but sadly, no rain, the only precipitaion being from dew.

Re: General February Weather
Been up to Hanmer Springs over the weekend. The countryside looks very dry, could do with some decent rain over the coming weeks but the models are not looking like we will get much at all!

Re: General February Weather
yet another dry, nice day here with 24 degrees the high. Light winds with a maximum gust of 18km/h today. Looks like could even be 2 weeks before the next rain here with yet another high on the cards moving in on the long range forecast.

General February Weather
Another warm dry day. I am surprised to see they aren't declaring a drought just yet. Another meeting on this Friday so I'm sure it will be declared this week.
Check out the sea breeze effect here. Insane jump in moisture. I don't recall seeing one so sharp and large before. Ignore the solar reading. I haven't had a chance to level it yet since I moved the station.

Re: General February Weather
wow, yes, that is a big jump in DP
sea breeze arrived here at midday...but took 5 hours later to reach in land as far as Hamilton!
Sea breeeze wind curve one of the best for shape I have seen here today (i.e slowly increased then peaked then slowly decreased. Interestingly it stayed SW to WSW and did not go around to the SSW like it often does
I see Ricky as flip flopping between SW and NNE wind , on the convergence

Re: General February Weather
Yes Sea breezes usually do take there time to get here, typically around 4-6 PM (Prime time for Thunderstorms).Manukau heads obs wrote:wow, yes, that is a big jump in DP

Last year there were a few storms that were triggered on the Sea Breeze, but zilch this year so far.
The upper air has been far too warm, I have a suspicion the Waikato may not get a decent amount of rain till early autumn. I hope I am wrong though.

Re: General February Weather
No model agreement on next week yet, still too far out anyway but atleast there is hope for some rain there.
Cooler feel today with the lower dewpoints, dps around 12C, currently fine, light winds , 23C

It's been such a good summer in Westland that the wood pigeons are getting drunk on all the fruit!

Stark contrast to here, it certainly wasn't as obvious.

Re: General February Weather
I think the extremely dry weather has made our house shift slightly - one of the interior doors is getting harder to shut because there isn't much room left between the bottom corner of the door and the door frame

A lot of Auckland is built on clay and clay shrinks in dry weather. The underground movement can do damage to masonary houses and driveways.

General February Weather
Yes u are correct there David. Us in the Waikato get this every dry summer on the peat soil as it drys. My new house is still settling on its piles in the peat as is the concrete slab for the garage. I have painters and builders coming to jack the house up on certain piles to bend the house back into line. Lots of cracks in the gib are appearing and doors sticking. My garage is the same but nothing I can do as its concrete.David wrote:I think the extremely dry weather has made our house shift slightly - one of the interior doors is getting harder to shut because there isn't much room left between the bottom corner of the door and the door frame

Re: General February Weather
According to Metservice, Rotorua got 5.2mm of rain, that can't be correct!
I had a look at the 12 hour radar loop and there is nothing.

We can close the door at the back properly,in winter it is off joint, the cracks on some of the concrete is very pronounced too.jamie wrote:Yes u are correct there David.
