Just got back from Victoria park where it is snowing steadily with big fat dry flakes. Also most lawns up there are white all over/ Snow level hovering around 100-150m as coming down turned back to sleety muck. Hopefully it lowers to sea level soon so we get some accumulation from these chain showers which have good energy over the city currently.

The fine hail / snow pellets we just had, have settled on the ground quite nicely....be a good base if the snow came :D

Cold southerly low level snow 27-28th May

Looks to be snowing in Taihape town from the web cam image. Sitting on 0.4*C currently there. Taihape town is only about 400m above sea level.

I'm surprised by some of the temps you guys have been getting down in Canterbury today. Seems warm when we have had similar temps up here to what you have had.

Have noticed so far that with each shower that passes the amount of snowflakes and graupel increases, hoping for the best that we get a layer of snow on the ground soon.

The big yellow has returned here now. I think we will know by 6pm if this is going to be interesting by the temperature we have around then.

Nice shower here too of sleet/grapel formed abit of a sediment base on some surfaces, temperature went from 7C down to currently 2.8C.
I think even if the sun did come out again it wont rise much now, it rained at the start of the shower as it was our first shower for the day and temperature needed to drop but that didnt take long.
I like that band lining us up offshore should increase even more as it hits land, i think the wind will be squally inbetween the showers.

Here in Tawa it's cold and windy. Had rain off and on through the day and a couple of small hail showers. Most of the bad weather has gone off to the east of us so far. Hoping for some more bad weather :)

Yeah hopefully the temp drops closer to 1 than 3 when that hits so we get some of the nice dry powerdy snow to lay a base. Still got graupel over most the lawn despite sleety stuff at times. A real browny look about the sky at the moment. Wind had died but its blowing again now.

sky colour might have something to do with sun setting, next 2 hours could get interesting

Snow showers getting lighter throughout the afternoon but we have just had a hail shower for the last 20mins? that has totally covered the roads again. Good luck for those heading home from work at 5pm tonight

Hopefully that band just to the south kick starts the snow. Im going to go out on a limb and say that will be the pivotal moment. Got rain falling here now and the graupel is being washed away.

Temp back up to 5.2 at the airport despite the sun being down. The air is a little warmer than I thought it would be.

I see the radar is playing up the last run on the 120km is back to 4pm lol, but anyway those showers offshore are looking more and more deep now so i dont think they will loose any steam.
4.2C here currently.
