High was meant to be 20 here today but 24 degrees with a westerly breeze. Hardly a cloud in the sky. Should be nice tomorrow. Hoping the front comes through later on Saturday as it is the final weekend of cricket. Latest run shows it more an afternoon event than morning now for here so here hoping!! Not looking good for the far north as the next few days sees a high dominating the weather in the far north. Off to Westport Good Friday, hoping for some heavy west coast rain. The relations said that there tank was empty 3 days ago and now it is full. Good news for them over there. Anyways seems to be some uncertainty in the tasman sea later next week so will keep an eye on proceedings!

We got 12mm of rain here, YTD total finally reached 100mm. Unfortunately it looks anticyclonic for the rest of month

'NZ's north suffers worst drought in 60 years,' s
Back in 1993 Auckland just about ran out of water. No body warned Aucklanders to stop using water until the taps were just on dry. Fortunately with this drought the reservoirs are being better managed and theres no water shortage. The heavy rain last night was a reminder that winter is not too far off and I'm sure it won't belong before Northland is getting a soaking. With El Nino persisting I'm picking rainfall to crank up by late April. A wetter than normal start to winter is on the cards.

what we need is to get into a regular pattern of lows forming in the tasman and moving across the NI
that will be the ticket :)

It was 1994. Back in 1943 things got pretty dire by May even though the rainfall was not exceptionally low (though on the low side for a few months).

Hot day down the east coast of the South Island.
31C in Timaru and 30C in Oamaru and Ashburton.
It was 29.4C here, maximum. :(
I wonder if any other places had temperatures as warm?

Just been looking at the lastest model runs through and it looks as if Wednesday afternoon through to Friday could be quite wet here in Christchurch and Canterbury with some heavy prolonged falls possible. Something out of the blue it must be said but something to keep a watch on at the same time. May be the fall of rain we need to turn the lawns from brown to green around the city.

Could be a big anticyclone crossing the Chathams in a few days with rather high central pressure:
