Re: USA 2016
I noticed this chart relating to USA hurricanes. This decade has been below average so far.

Another low number is this years tornado count, well below avg.

A chart here of global tornado probability based the NCEP modelling data. Chart by Harold Brookes NSSL.
USA Midwest looking fairly unique in the world. South America another hot spot.

Re: USA 2016
Finally got around to compiling all the timelapse I took from this years trip, pleased with how it turned out but not really enough footage to do a proper film like what Mike Olbinski does. Maybe next year!

Re: USA 2016
Awesome footage rouge.
A spectacular aspect about USA storms is the movement such as the rotation. Filming the storms is a far superior to capture them than photos.

SPC verification chart for tornadoes on the 24/8/16. This highlights that a significant tornado outbreak can come in under the radar.
The strongest rated tornado damage was EF3 at Kokomo Indiana.

Re: USA 2016
A few tornadoes expected over northern Florida Friday due to a tropical storm. SPC have a 5% coverage tornado probs for Friday.
GFS output a bit light on instability but big shear/moisture combo. CB tops over 14km!

Re: USA 2016
Spotted that warned storm on my radar app today (bored), clear rotation and hook. Funnily enough, I was talking to my girlfriend last night about how we forecast storms, and Midland was in her target area (simply based on the shortwave moving into area of high cape), whereas mine was west-central OK :/ ...

Re: USA 2016
A bit outside of tornado alley but I notice there was an EF2 tornado in coastal Oregon yesterday.
Tornadoes in the western USA always catch my attention as the region mirrors NZ for tornado set ups, particularly the South Island West Coast where topography veers the low level flow to create the low topped supercells/waterspouts.

model sounding. gfs doesn't show a surface southerly.

Re: USA 2016
3 people killed by a tornado in Alabama yesterday. Dixie tornado alley season has started, a little bit like NZ's winter thunderstorm season. However the subtropical conditions in the Gulf of Mexico makes their winter thunderstorm season quite a potent one.
