Looking over to the port hills , its seems to be clearing if anything, the rain has stopped in CHCH.

temp raising in chch, its up to 6.1 degrees and is going up, along with the barometer.

Showers and cold southerly temp 3.5°, pressure 1010mb.

Is there more snow down south?

The sun is now out in my part of town.

Its not beach weather though.

Still on and off snow showers in Dunedin.

There was snow on the hills only this morning, most of its gone away now. Still some snow showers going through once in a while. Still really cold.

Nothing but blue skies here in chch, the wind is mighty cold. Temp is 7.5 degrees and raising, the barometer is 1007 and raising.

A new forcast sees fine weather Tuesday and severe frosts Wednesday.

if that next front surging north, which will have even colder air behind it, can get close to canterbury, then its possible snow showers on banks pen. 2 nite I would say
(and there hail looking showers just clipping on the end of banks pen. now....slowly moving more inland too by the looks)

Small flakes of snow falling on and off since morning. Nothing on the ground.

Temps rather cool 3 degrees, but with a wind chill of below zero.

So we have to wait till saturday?

Heck its like watching a toaster or something.

This current cold snap has been quite disappointingly. I didn't expect a ton of the white stuff, but for it to turn into clear blue skies is amazing.

I don't think we should wait for Saturday as Saturday's stuff looks to be way to warm for any snow...

Perhaps look at things with a "big picture" view?

I don't think it suprised anyone that it turned blue, really...one look at the sat loops this morning after waking up told me that...do you have some good links to those? Just let us know and we can hook you up...plus looking at more than just one forecast can help to balance things to get a better picture for yourself...I still think we may see some of the white stuff tonight...outside chance, mind you, but we'll see.
Last night we didn't get a chance to get those frost temps before the cloud came in to play, I reckon. A bit like putting a blanket on at night......had they not been in place and the frosts came I think we would have seen a bit more flakage...but I am still curious as to what caused the temps to spike the way they did...perhaps the "blanket" that came in first??? Anyone?

Oh yeah...plus LOTS of reading of what people have posted here helps lots!

I still think we will have to wait about a month for the first of a real polar blast for chch.

I dont have links to the Saturday loops? I wouldn't know where to begin. I just mainly get my info from fencepost or the metservice.

CHCH will be in the firing line for significant precipation for the first time from this system in a about 3 hours or so from now I would day (banks peninsular is in the firing line now)

but there is no snow coming for this satuday...instead the next system is going to be warm northerly rain

Pathetic amount of snow drifting around above the Mackenzie right now. Doesn't look promising for anything significant.

I see Chch dewpoints have fallen away, now below 0C which will aid cooling this evening.
Showers moving in look just light to mod.

Sleety splodges on the windscreen this morning around Amberley, with the air temp hovering around 3deg. A clearance this afternoon shows snow on Mt Grey down to about 200-300m.

A few of the hill suburb roads around Dunedin have been closed due to snow. On and off snow showers all day.

Still snowing down to sea level off and on. Not lying though.

Not alot has happend in Christchurch im afraid! It really hasnt surprised me at all, looking at the models, as there didnt seem too be that much moisture in this front.
I think most of the showers will fizzle out over BP tonight and will become frosty overnight. then again theres always next time

Snail shower just gone through sleety,hail .

Yes rain this morning with some decent sleet for awhile pitty it cleared so quickly all we can do is hope for something overnight.
The shower clouds must have changed directions as in more S-SW not SW like the nice belts late this afternoon over BP.
