Good thunder moved through this morning, with some good bumshudders around Kerikeri. Currently steady at around 60km/hr , gusting 80, from the West (With the trees having been weakened with the Northerly bashing this morning, this Westerly shift should see some increased frequency of windfalls)
Far North:
Dargaville, 30x50m awning lifting on service station forecourt, Fire estimate gusts at 60 - 70Kn. Currently holding lid on with excavator and attempting to shield forecourt with stocktruck.
Kaitaia: Roof lifting on Kaitaia sawmill, debris hazard to traffic. Fire attempting to tie roof down
Roof off dwellings in several locations around district
Many trees have come down across roads, Councils and Power doing the rounds non stop.
CBFan
Just in... Trees and lines down at Towai, downed lines have killed several head of stock.

I seriously thought about going, but by the time I got a couple of new tyres fitted onto my car it would have got me up there too late.
Maybe next time. It would be good to meet a group to be able to put some names to faces.
Amazingly I just discovered a friend of mine here in Tauranga is seriously into his weather stations. My upcoming project has just got easier, now I've just got to put aside the $$$.

Hi
Back at the house now!!
wow, 71 knots recorded on top of the car
and we went to the top of a hill and could not stand up at times , we were getting blown off the hill, 65 to 70 knots!
i have attached the graph
the barometer drop then rise was when we drove up there and back (and the speed of the car gave some big readings, so ignore those)
you should have come out Graeme, it was an exhilerating
will attach photos in a sec

ricky was taking the photos (and being blown around doing that), and the other person is c-nimbus
we missed the peak of the winds, which was around 1:45pm
but we would not have been able to stand up in those winds
wind swung Westerly here now, and increasing again
I see big cb's have passed over dargaville away last hour, with another low center up that way

awesome day out there today brian, i have just made it back home to west auckland, where there is some wind damage to trees etc etc.
Part of me wishes the election was still going cos i would have loved to have seen all those signs blown over
but yes, i did get blown over when we headed up to the signal station!! I can honestly say that i have never experienced winds like that.
Thanks once again Brian for the invitation and the ride in the "chase vehicle" with 'custom aenonononononmeter" or however you spell it.
And a big thanks to your wife for the hospitality, sossy rolls, sarnies and the whole nine yards.
more th th th thunder and lightning on the cards for 2moro.
Next time fellow aucklanders we have to ALL meet up and do this....
