Great reports and pics everyone
Awesome!!
Apologies, I'm having a very extreme bad day!!!! with these tumours (DT feeling nauseous as she sits at comp ) however, I noted I was remiss with my followup with my gorgeous little explosive CB here in the FN - alright quickly, it flattened out afterwhile and I'll post another pic of it later.
Cheers.

A very busy afternoon for thunderstorms over the Central NorthIsland.
I drove as far south as Morrinsville, got under a storm there about 4.30pm.

Re: Convective period, NI, 25-28th January
here are some photos from today. shame i had to work otherwise it would have been good to chase. The last photo had constant thunder and was also at the time the lightning tracker had a peak of 51 strikes in the minute.
Please dont be fooled by the green grass in the pictures. Yes it looks green but its a green drought. Hopefully these storms tomorrow hit where they didnt today. By the looks the central N.I has had huge amounts today. The Waikato river catchment has had a lot of storms roll over it today.
I replayed todays lightning on the tracker and it was unreal to watch. Soooo much lightning!
Today had a high of 27.7C so it was hot as and the dew point got into the 20's today too.

Busy afternoon down that way indeed, really like the second shot there spwill.. cloudbursts make great viewing (and corepunching
)
Watched the majority of towers rise up & collapse upon themselves around the district & south, a couple matured enough to unload before eventually choking themselves to death & gusting out.. pretty much the order of the day.
Still, the sky this morning was screaming storms, the ingredients and triggers were there, just wished it were a hundred or so k's further north but thems the brakes I guess.
Good photos all.

Re: Convective period, NI, 25-28th January
Great photos guys.
I went for a drive with the family, this afternoon and got as far as Ohingaiti. We could see the dark bases of the storms a little bit further to the north, possibly over Mangaweka/Taihape. Didn't hear any thunder or see any lightning, but could see several intense rain shafts.
I'm hoping the storm activity heads a little bit further south, tomorrow.

Re: Convective period, NI, 25-28th January
Excellent pics of todays storms.
Yes, tomorrow will certainly be another active day. The 00Z gfs has the best instability in the west over Waikato/Waitomo. (LI's-4 CAPE 1200j/kg). West coast seabreezes to converge with the NE flow.

Yes. where are they?
It's quite annoying that when the front went through here it was so useless and boring but when it got to the North Island it was like "Hey, Big Boy, here I am "

Yes the weather has been terribly boring down here lately.. where is summer for start??
Great photos guys to, DT fantastic! love the turkey tower.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
As for us down here we'll have our day dont worry guys, just as long as we arnt working![Larf ](./images/smilies/larf.gif)
Best thing about our storms is the chance of big hail in Canterbury with severe thunderstorms so theres a upside.
Not much in the way of storms in the near future by the sounds though unfortunately![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

All pics taken looking S this afternoon between 17:19 - 17:53hrs, after the last image was taken - it flattened out and went down alot... there was no thunder and/or lightning from it - still, it was an impressive sight, one I simply enjoyed observing.

great pics DT, some of the best ive seen you post! and yes, its hard to see lightning in discrete cells like that in the middle of the day!
