Bloody NE winds or ENE winds can destroy a nice day in Christchurch, that's why we moved to West Melton and hence Geraldine.
The only good use for winds from that direction is in thunderstorm development from an upcoming southerly change.
...anyway a nice day here in Geraldine with it getting up to 22C. Light NE. Some weak Cu over Mt.Peel/4 Peaks area.

Overcast overnight and this morning with 0.2mm of drizzle early this morning.
Cloud eventually clearing from late afternoon to become a blue dome afternoon although a little hazy.
Light southerly winds or SE sea breezes. Some weak Cu fists along the foothills but not lasting.
20.9C for today.

Been a very strange start to November in Christchurch. Muted temperatures with a top in the first 5 days of only 16c. Only projected to get above 20c from Monday the 8th. Normally Canterbury anniversary weekend next weekend is always hot so fingers crossed we start seeing some heat.
Now 9 days in and still only a max so far of 16c. Looking back over the last 5 years at least half of the 1st 10 days of November have been 20c plus even a fair few 30c plus temps mixed in those years.
Rain forecast this weekend with only a hint of sunshine this Friday. Hope we can start to warm up into December
A norwester from the approaching Tasman low should bring some warmth and hopefully sunshine, it's been a dreary first third of November! I'd give La Nina a 3/10 so far on the enjoyment scale.
An atmospheric river setting up this weekend for western parts of both islands, courtesy of that same Tasman low.
Been lovely sunny weather now for quite a few days. Fog has been coming in as it gets dark keeping it mild during the night then clears away early morning, temps have been between 20 and 22deg for the last three days.

Similar to here with max temps slightly cooler at 19 to 20

Weather guru’s - when will this awful wind in Chch stop?! Feels like it’s day after day of howling easterly’s
The Kink
In continual days that the easterly would blow there was this constant cloud cover over the city but if you looked south towards the Halswell area, there was this clear blue sky.
From Tai Tapu onwards it would fine up, and at Motukarara and further, it was lovely and fine and clear without a hint of wind.
I called this phenomenon, "The Kink"
After the clearance of cloud this morning, another fine day but more hazier and quite warm this afternoon with a max of 22.7C in sort of humid conditions. Lots of cirrus forms in the higher skies above.
Very summer like at present.
The upper level temps are on the rise as well, so Thunderstorms that have been developing over the past 5 days will start to phase out from tomorrow.
NCEP indicating a distrurbed Westerly with subsequent cold longwave moving up the country on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. Upper temps predicted to drop to -26*C at 500hpa, something to keep an eye on on model output to this weekend if it firms up.

that is like summer temperatures
Yeah, how is that possible when the sea surface temp is 17C at most? I get it in spots not fully exposed to the sea breeze solar heating of the ground will allow warmer temperatures but would expect a fully exposed sensor to read below 20C at least.
Last 5 days here 22.9, 24.6, 22.9, 24.7, 24.0 - and 24 likely again today. Nothing incredibly high but sure feels like the summer pattern has settled in.
