Re: Even Deeper Subtropical Low - May 23-27
Interesting how on the last 3-4 hours the radar stops the rain band at about just over Christchurch city, but nothing out this way.
Its been on and off heavy drizzle here since 5pm.
Looks like a rain band is starting to form and loop into Canterbury soon, just offshore you can see it developing.

The heathcote looks high for sure, so why is the Avon so low in town? It looks no different than it normally does, doesn't seem to have risen at all, not at any stage all week, where does the Avon originate?

Heathcote's catchment includes the hill areas - Avon does not !!

the avon is an old outlet of the waimak, and still fed by it indirectly(avonhead)

Nice to see another new member stormwatchr, welcome
Been a very cold day today, not sure if the temputure reached past 6C today, has been bone chilling.
Heavy drizzle in my area most of the day with wee bit more heavier rain tonight, but more so heavy heavy drizzle.
cheers mikey

Cripes its grim out there, I have been worried about this since I was up the hils this morning. If this rain band comes in there are serious problems coming for our area

Re: Even Deeper Subtropical Low - May 23-27
We are almost drowning out here in Southbridge - there is so much water around! Still raining, heavily at times, with surface flooding and some isolated deep spots in troublesome low areas. Hubby is on his second call out tonight (fire service) - both for flooding - one across a road and one at a house. Bitterly cold too.

Re: Even Deeper Subtropical Low - May 23-27
38mm of rain fell here yesterday, non stop drizzle all day with torrential drizzle at times, especially in the evening. The rain band this morning has not known what to do and is out to sea but looks to be tying to work its way towards us here. Looking at latest MS 7 day runs the low seems to be bringing further south again for the upcoming systems. Interesting times ahead...

Re: Even Deeper Subtropical Low - May 23-27
Been for a drive this morning. Plenty sodden paddocks well under water, especially in the halswell - hoonhay area. Heathcote still running very high, borderline bursting in parts. Couple of hours sustained rain today could see it back up on some roads. I saw what you were talking about last night 'stormwatcherchch' , do you live in the area with the big white fence near colombo street, might be off malcom ave or something...that was pretty scary. Anyhow the weather is closing in and rain is now falling again. Only 5mm overnight but could be some more significant rain today if those bands coming in from sea stay stationary like yesterday.

Has been snowing in Queenstown all day. Was stranded at the airport trying to get out. Was awsome watching snow fall on the runway and the ATR that was parked up!

Re: Even Deeper Subtropical Low - May 23-27
Interestingly today is the least heaviest of the rain we have had over the last few days. From this system we have had. Monday 38mm Tuesday 33mm Wednesday 62mm Thursday 12mm Friday 32mm Today (so far) 8mm. Total to date of: 187mm. Drizzling outside currently. Will be going out later this afternoon to take some PICS of paddocks in hoonhay totally buried in water, its a good view of these from the top of Westmorland.Jasestorm wrote:Steady to heavy falls of rain here at the moment, the heaviest its been in a few days anyway.

Go into the Canterbury Agricultural Park C.A.P and look at the lakes there, i know a number of times over the years the ponds or lakes have flooded into the park.CHCH Weather Chaser wrote:Interestingly today is the least heaviest of the rain we have had over the last few days. Contunuous drizzle out here at West Melton but glad that the keen westerly wind has dropped down a bit. Can chop some more firewood to put onto the shed to dry..
