Yes, we will be hiring a car at Dallas Airport and heading in the direction any severe weather. That time of the year is high season for Super Cell Thunderstorms.

Plan B is a visit to New Orleans and Florida if not much is happening weather wise.

Good stuff guy's! Should be a great experiance (adventure! don't you love it!). If your taking a video camera could I please see the video when you come back!

Good point NZstorm, tornado can't be focus but if you get one it's a bonus. I must say I'm partial to some lightning myself. I consider a good lightning show really awsome and a days chasing very successful if a good lightning show is had.

Lots of pics!! ;) Lots of video!! :o

Yes, its going to be interesting to check out the storm chase scene over there, and see some USA storms, which can be quite something.
The only issue I am yet to resolve is internet access. If possible I would like to purchase an internet supply over there. Really, the success of the trip is reliant on a good supply of information, so we know where we should be going. :)

The easiest way of doing that would be thru hiring a cell-phone from the airport, not sure of the rates over there but they will be cheaper than here!! Also somehow geting radio reports would be idealy, although not sure what the deal is with that, would dont it would cost much for the cheapest radio ?

I've got Vodafone live which has been interesting to play with. But my cell phone is not powerful enough to pick up most websites. I can read my own website clearly as it is a basic URL. There is a new cell phone on the market which has better internet capability and a 3megapixel camera. It costs $1200. Expensive. :(

In regard to the two days of consecutive thunderstorms over southeastern Waikato brung very heavy rain to Matamata with near flash flooding. However spectacular, "scary" lightning there.

:?: Pick up a cheap radio scanner, something like a second hand Bearcat 120xlt - they have the frequecies preprogrammed for the US weather alert service. - Just press the big WX button ;) , Should be able to get one for less than NZ$150

Wireless internet is now widely available throughout the Midwest USA at numerous locations. For instance all McDonalds resturants now offer wireless high speed internet for $2.95. Just need to take a laptop along. :)

Also, I think a laptop is a must take for downloading off the Camera memory card and viewing the images at the end of the day.

I will investigate the radio scanner options.

Also, the Day1, Day2, Day3 Severe Convective Outlooks for USA are readily available on the cell phone. I've just looked them up. You recieve the statement as well as chart coordinates. :D
