Yeh things have eased somewhat now tracker is picking up strikes along the Kaikoura coast area though.
It certainly was a small storm of that and fast moving as it was gone from where it threw out a CG bolt and a close flash bright blue of CC.
I geared up my video camera ready for something but nothing happend
.
When is the southerly coming in? probly overnight I would think as the low crosses as I wonder if that would stir things up abit
.
Cheers
Jason.

Yes the storm has moved out over the sea. Looks to have crossed the Cheviot area.
If you did get any lightning over Christchurch it would have come from elevated mid level activity which has drifted across from the alps.

Well I think NZstorm pointed this out earlier in the week and has done well
even though it didn't eventuate into anything major it was still good to see lightning again
.
I thought this morning with the ingrediants we had that things could suit up for thunderstorms as you will see I posted earlier in the day but apart from that I didn't really think too greatly on thunder for today.
We will see what happens overnight
.
Cheers
Jason.

It'll come Brian.. think it's just gathering its full potential of moisture from the jetstream at the moment, until it really gets pushed eastwards.
20mm during Saturday morning from the band? Pretty bad luck for the cricketers tomorrow
.
Looking quite grey with west southwesterlies beyond the next day too.. the cloudiness continues.
Another sweaty night here, but the dewpoints have come down.. 18C/ dp 15C at present.

Could possibly be the 5.5 earthquake was caused by alot of rain falling over the area.
There was an article about this in the press a few weeks ago how they reakon in heavy rains and floods the water seeps into the earth causing pressure or something?
.
I know there was earthqaukes in 2004 in the Bay Of Plenty when there was the floods and slips so could be to do with that.
Also heard on the news about slips in the lower north island overnight after heavy downpours.
Cheers
