Not only did I get a first edition copy of the Herald without the photo, but when I try to view their online aricle I can't see the picture. I assume that's punishment for having my cookies turned off.

It's a great photo, it would have been nice to have seen it in it's published glory.

Keep up the good work spwill.

Although I was delighted to see the photo on the Herald front page, having seen it last night, I have to say that the newspaper photo did not have the same quality as that seen online and I now have as one of my desktop backgrounds.

Great work, spill.

Gee, didn't know there was a tornado from those thunderstorms in eastern Tauranga!!!
100kmh tornado rips through worksite

03.05.2007

By DAVID DUNHAM
A tornado ripped through a Western Bay building site at up to 100kmh yesterday, lifting a portaloo off the ground and sending workers rushing for cover from flying debris.

Timber, fence panels and steel mesh zipped through the air at the Papamoa Beach Gardens retirement complex at Te Okuroa Drive after the tornado made landfall at about 4pm.

With a diameter of about 10m and a wind speed of up to 100kmh, the tornado raged for about 20 seconds on the building site.

Human waste spilled out of the portaloo after it was carried for 20m and sent crashing into a fence before landing on its side on the ground.

Project manager for the Belvedere Construction worksite, Sebastian Jonsson, said he was watching the tornado thinking it was "exciting stuff" until it made landfall and he made a dash for his site office.

"It was an incredible sight to see the toilet lifted off the ground and timber go through the air. Being in a tornado is not what you expect to happen when you go to work."

Remarkably, none of the eight workers, who Mr Jonsson said were "quite calm" during the tornado, were hurt and that he believed no buildings in the area were damaged.

The Fire Service also did not have any weather-related callouts.

However, the Belvedere Construction team - which has been on-site since last month building five retirement units - had to carry out a clean-up operation after the tornado.

Mr Jonsson called in extra staff to help and the site was back to normal within an hour.

Sure is a mild day today the warmest we have had in about a month now currently 22.3C out with not a breath of wind 8) .
I bet the old waikato boys are still celebrating foggy? after last nights game still congwats :D it's been quite some time coming since :-k .
We could have played better but cheifs dominated in terrictory and possesion and don't even mention the reff ](*,) these new laws are tearing a good game of rugby apart.
Anyway back on topic  was up at Worsley on the hills yesterday and whilst spraying to battle a strong NE wind which was rather on the chilly side.
Cheers
Jason.

A bit off topic but yes - there are other Waikato folks around... I was at a Shakespeare Drama schools competition evening but rang home and found out the score during the mini breaks. I still have not seen it, but with so many penalties, it would have not been a great match to watch.

Total calm and overcast skies here, 15.1 and 10.7DP so nice and clear at our level but cloud is at about 400m up -est with no data transfer to the PC :(

Refereed soccer in Hams this morning HG High for my daughter's HS team - and yes even at 10am, it was still foggy!! (And calm).

I remember looking at Breakfast on TV ONE the next morning after you took the photo and Paul Henry was holding a copy of the Herald with your picture on it! I'm not sure if they discussed it or not, I might've just missed it. I think they were wrapping that segment up but cool none the less!

Great photo!

Cheers
