Re: Cold snap for Eastern South Island
Definitely warmer this morning north end of Dunedin. Yesterday I noticed a good frost set on the cars about 7:45am biking to work down Opoho and along the flat. At 4º, given my speed on the MTB going down the hill my ears were suffering with the windchill at -3. Light rain earlier, no frost, and much warmer ears today (the beanie under the helmet probably helped as well ).
I am Heisenborg: you will probably be assimilated.

Re: Cold snap for Eastern South Island
Kudos to the Met Service!
We just had a brief but intense snowfall here in Omarama. Nothing settled and it's now turned to rain but it was fun while it lasted!
No snow fell further north (Twizel or Lake Tekapo) and the sun is trying to come out right now, so I'm guessing that's all she wrote for the day, at least.

Hi Andrew, saw that display at 01:00 this morning over towards the banks, absolutely fantastic display as it was clear here at Rolleston and the stars were out but it looked really strange over the banks, with the clouds lighting up. 1.7c @07:37 this morning, even the cat would'nt go out.Now thats usually an omen when she does thatAndrew Massie wrote:Lightning currently off Banks Peninsula... Re: Cold snap for Eastern South Island
How much snow did you guys in Dunedin get? Is it still sleeting or snowing? Does it look like a prolonged event for you or is it over?
The rain has stopped here, the clouds are thinning and the temp is rising. Looks as if Omarama copped the last, most northerly gasp of the system, as it remained completely clear further north of us.
Not much of an event, but better than nothing and the first "ground-level" snow of the year. Will we get much more or is it to be another winterless winter, like the last four or five?

Lovely tower(lets) over the Rimutakas, typical post-frontal westerly scenario.

Re: Cold snap for Eastern South Island
Hi,
Out here in Tainui its cold and the sun is shining with lots of clouds around. Looking up at Mount Cargill etc, they are covered by cloud, can't see if the snow is still there.

Looking at FujitaPhil's live webcam in Opoho (http://www.philanda.esmartweb.com/livecam.html) it looks sunny.
