Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Some steady light - moderate rain been falling around the city for the last hour and a half or so. Rain band starting to build rather nicely. After many hot days and very dry conditions with around 4 days only with measured rain all year lets hope we can grab around 50mm tomorrow with the system coming through. So far today including the overnight drizzle this morning we have had 6mm. Humidity highest it has been in a long time at 89%
However, i think there is going to be an effect occurring protecting the city from a lot of the rain like what happened the last time rain came from this direction. Models dont seem to be showing so much anymore either and right now although there is a quite significant band showing on the radar its not raining anymore yet it appears everywhere else it is

Umm, I thought there was some really nasty disease you could get from cows urine that meant milking out of gumboots would be a really bad idea?j--me--h wrote:na i just milk barefooot, stubies, and no shirt, no overalls.... just stubbies
Sorry, thinking about your health & wellbeing here.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
hehe wouldnt mind the breasts
yes there is the disease leptosperoses (spelling?) commonly known as lepto and i have actually caught it before. Herd is vaccinated but i caught it after moving car tyres in barefeet and probably caught it from rat urine so i am much more carefull than i used to be. It knocked me for 6 thats for sure. Nasty illness. lost 10kg in a week. never put it back on. Still have sensitive eyes today and it happened in early 2005.
sorry back on topic and its been another very warm night and current still have light showers. Bring on the heavy rain. the place sure needs it.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Why is this sub-tropical arimass so much warmer than in past summers? I haven't had a low of 22 in the 5yrs or so I've had temperature measurements, let alone 3 lows of 22 in a row (21.9 on 10th, 21.6 on 11th, 22.4 today).

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
we have not had a prolonged tropical air mass hang around like this for a while
but its happened before at this time of year, especialy when a ex tropical cyclone becomes slow moving over the upper NI (i.e the remains of one).....have seen it where it just about rain out of thin air (actualy from cirro cumulus that had passed over!)

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Think this is a bit of a stretch to classify this as a wall cloud - looks more like low scud forming beneath the main cb - it's not really attached to the main cloud as a pronounced lowering.Tornado Tim wrote:Wall cloud:

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Unfortunately only drizzly light rain and only 5mm so far today so no significant rain to relieve the drought as yet. Main rain band is in South Canterbury.

Give me dry Australian heat over this muggy garbage any day.
Currently 24.6°C and 81% here.
Bring on the Southerly change tomorrow morning.
Thinking about a drive to Auckland this afternoon.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Is this thing going to slide to the south of us? Last 3 hours it has hardly moved northwards. Radar loop shows the rain skidding SE in the rain band but as a whole the rainband is hardly moving/making ground.
The warnings only go as high as the bottom of the corromandle peninsula so it could happen

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
The rain band in the North Island seems very intense and very slow moving out at sea at the moment.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
it has made progress compared to 9am...slow moving is a good thing...as long as it does not speed up as it passes over us
there should still be rain around tomorrow morning in the SSW wind change I would think
I think the models have sped it up a bit too much?

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Gusty NE wind is keeping the temperature down today in the east; 27.0C max here so far as opposed to yesterday's 29.8C.
