Bit of aviation traffic entering holding patterns, Singapore Airlines 777 lurking off the Coast at present.

Re: Warm, windy, & changeable end to August!!!
According to the local paper,
Last nights storm:
150 Lightning Strikes locally in just 2 hours
8500 homes lost mains power
One house had 11 windows blown out by a thunder shock wave, others in the same street also lost windows. The strike hit a pole next to Telecom cabinet which subsequently caught fire.
I shoulda gone for a drive, the booms were impressive, but I didn't think they were frequent enough, sigh.

Must have weakened heaps as it came east, no heavy rain here, and the closest thunder was around 9 seconds from the lightning (which there didn't seem to be that much of either)...

That's an excellent photo!!!!! Great stuff!
Some low pitch thunder still around here, seems more to the east now.
The rain radar seems to be exaggerating the rain intensity...

Yes, some great looking lightning here, including one triple strobing skytower c-g .. quite an unusual thunderstorm in that with lots of close strikes there was not much heavy precipitation here .. I did see much heavier falls elsewhere on the radar though, also remarkably quiet thunder for NZ! great photo NZstorm!
