As it was such a lazy day here, I pushed a sofa in front of the windows and fell asleep in the sun... no gales or horizontal rain here today. Has 1.5mm from a brief shower at lunchtime but thats all.

Ofcoarse, Met Service used to have a forecast office in Auckland, but it was closed to reduce cost, and forecasting for the region shifted to Wellington (1992). At the time it created a bit of a furore, especially with the boating cummunity, but AK forecastes have improved since then. Christchurch forecast office suffered the same fate.

As for private forecasting (Met Service is still state owned), I doubt there is much of a market for it. ;)

BlueSkies is still going strong, thanks to Tony T and WeatherGirlWX

I liked the old black and white maps they used to show in eg The Evening Post and Herald they were detailed and used to show wind barbs etc and they used to go quite high up ie above Fiji and also Campbell island too(The herald usually still does) but most are boring simple maps :?

Ken Ring has done well because he is offering something different.

Anway its drizzling here in Auckland at the moment. Met service forecast for Auckland today(online) was one word 'Fine'. :?
