Re: General July Weather
Cool!!! when i lived in auckland lightning hit the roof of the builing above me while i was standing on the balcony. best CG ive ever experienced. Made me fall to the ground it was so close. I bet your experience was much the same.Dale Small wrote:CRAP I walked outside, lit a smoke and this friggen great CG just landed directly across the street.. I kind of look like a cartoon character now standing there bug eyed shaking like a leaf trying to hold his cig!
Got a bit of hail in that lot too!

Re: General July Weather
Had a few brief spots before but it is trying to close in from the west fast moving dark shower clouds, wind not very strong as yet just occasionally fresh and gusty.
Should close in this evening, not sure why the MS think it will clear this evening when its only just starting to spill over now and the maps show it by 6pm tonight.
Nice day though would forget its winter, currently 14C 980hpa.

Re: General July Weather
Big flash of lightning followed by a loud crack and an almighty rumble that gave me a bit of a fright then followed by heavy rain mixed with hail this happened about 45 minutes ago.

Raining well again here at present, as it did a couple of times through the day. 7 degrees, pressure dropping away again.

About the same here too, Richard, nuisance value really. Poor laundry-drying day despite the breeze.Richard wrote:how much rain did ya get from those showers Orion?,only had one shower here, just enough to wet the ground only.

Re: General July Weather
Moderate rain here now, Currently 5 degrees. Much colder than I expected today only reached a high of 8 degrees even with a moderate NW wind and quite a few fine breaks between the spillover showers.

Re: General July Weather
The forecast GFS barometer for Invercargill late Sunday is 958hpa. Whether that will verify, we'll have to see. Looks a good wintry system too.

Re: General July Weather
Abit of spillover rain before grounds all wet, now a strong gusty W-NW wind outside with 10C currently.
Ive heard from someone on the west coast very windy there with occasional downpours and thunder/lightning, also reports from some locals just north of Hokitika of a small tornado coming ashore and up into a valley this was around 6pm.
