Very muggy here, DP of 21°C temp of 23.0°C, seems like we have stepped into a little what Darwin gets in terms of moisture.....
Cloud cover has gone back to around 6 octas now from around 4 before.

Just had a look at WV and IR Images:
as Jamie said it seems we have a clearing coming our way so it seems northern NI to central NI could have chance of getting some thunder...... as the WV image shows no showing of drier air to come in soon.
The central to mid northern NI looks better however with more DTSH possible due to more land which would increase the lapse rates.
Note: Deeper Blues in the IR Sat Image indicate less cloud cover.

For surfaced based storms we'll need about 25C I reckon. Still solid overcast here but brighter looking.
Last nights storms were elevated, looked to be developing off moisture around 2000m level, but thats going by the NZWP12Z sounding.

Looks like a mostly dry afternoon here unless some showers pop up along the east coast.

Re: Subtropical Low - Dec 29 2011 - Jan 1 2012
Absolutely hosed down, just got back from punching it both ways going up to Auckland to collect some equipment. Slight delay caused by a slip on the Kaimai's. Luckily I ignored the road closed sign intending to get photo's and was second car through when it was opened, following the cop in front of me.
Traffic on SH2 between SH1 & SH25 is a shocker, I went SH29, SH27, through Tahuna to Ohinewai and SH1 no drama's that way.
