Dramatic looking picture there, Aaron.
It was inky black like that to the north of ChCh around lunch time with the NE but nothing much really happening from it. No thunder heard, well I never heard any.

Dark cloud building to southwest, as blue on radar moves closer.
Only 4.5C and wet in Kaikoura - I guess Metservice needs to lower their forecast snow levels.

It was only 7.9C at 3:17pm here this afternoon.
Not bad for November, especially with a NE blowing ?

Good pictures there, even though the first one was on an angle.
Systems much weaker up here.

Thanks for sharing those photos Matt, good to see what that cell looked like a little earlier on in the piece, looks impressive!
I wouldn't mind a slight break from it Mikey to get my sh#t together. lol. Lawns need mowing and lots of other jobs around the house. But if a storm comes then to hell with it all! haha

Some very moist air with the fronts tomorrow/Monday over the North Island. Precip water values upto 40mm so pockets of heavy rain.

Re: General November Weather
Mondays sub tropical airmass will make a nice change from yesterdays polar airmass, 18C dewpoint here on Monday.
I see Brisbane has a forecast temp range 24C -39C for Sunday, Ipswich just inland from Brisbane is forecast to reach 42C. Some early season heat there while NZ November weather has been generally cooler than average. Looks like the general pattern ahead ( next couple of weeks) should see our temperatures nearer normal, hopefully

This time last year I had already swum in the pool a few times.
Maize crops are really struggling this year.

Re: General November Weather
Every day from Nov 16 to Nov 30 last year was at least 23 degrees here, certainly not looking like a repeat of that! For my station, the average temp so far this month is running similar to Nov 2012.jamie wrote:This time last year I had already swum in the pool a few times.

Winds starting to get gusty here in West Melton, I wonder if the Metservice will jag a correct wind warning this time for central Canterbury:)

Re: General November Weather
There is some tropical air in that system crossing the North Island on Monday, a big contrast to the polar air 2 days ago!
Perhaps elevated thunderstorms could occur but its too early to be sure.
