My thoughts exactly, is only very lightly snowing now and isn't gonna last much longer. Only got 1cm at best

Pretty much a general southerly for this area.Tony's forecast right on the money.Radar shows rain has pushed through this area already,reports of light snow to 300metres.

Yep snow showers here at sea level and settling too. Got a solid 15-20 minutes of snow just now.

Just wasn't cold enough here earlier when we had the rain for the snow to fall. Although it is definitely getting colder here as the evening draws on. My friend in Dunedin says she has heavy snow falling up at Halfway Bush.

Dry here from 9pm last night and had 13mm up to that point.
Looking around the webcams it looks at best like a few cm fell inland.

This is what M/S said for cantertbury, im not sure a dusting is going to do that lol.

One of the biggest flops in a while. No major snow at all at Arthurs Pass, just a minor dusting that will soon go when 15 cm plus had been predicted. A lot I families bailed early on school hol trips for no reason in the end

Weather forecasting isn't an exact science. Better they warn people who make informed decisions to leave early to avoid the risk, than they say little or play the risk down and lots of people get stuck. Hopefully most parents will see it for what it was and accept that it's difficult to predict.

Got about 5cm in Tekapo. All fell in an hour then it was over. Nothing special for here, just enough to add to the big piles of snow waiting to melt from the big dump last month.

Agree, a timing issue.

The last warm advective snow event had the cold air in place in advance of the arrival of the precip. Also the last event had more moisture.

The wintry trough gave Dunedin it's 5th snowfall of the year, 5 falls for the hill suburbs by mid July.

The "southerly gusting 120 kph" here is in fact about SSW/SW for the most part, and I can barely detect movement in nearby tall trees. It's about time MetService made clearer distinctions when forecasting for a locality for which smallish changes of airflow can make a big difference. Since this El Nino started to kick in about last spring we have already had more SW/WSW phases - eg a run of clear days at the end of June - than I can recall happening in the previous 4-5 years.

Got 8 mm here yesterday,had very light snow just before stopping about 10.00pm.Talking of wind directions,its a westerly blowing here on a southerly airflow

Precip eased right off here yesterday before the snow level dropped below 300 metres, if the level had dropped earlier yesterday we would of got quite a bit , as we had 2 hours of constant heavy sleet with flakes mixed in
