The line of thunderstorms to the SW of Wellington was very impressive at 4pm. It just slid onto the southern suburbs and looked VERY heavy over towards island bay. LOTS of lightning, with some spanning multiple cells in the line. All rain wrapped, so no clear bolts visible from our location.

Looks like the most intense part was a little north of here on the radar, looks like the lightning was from that direction too.

Decent house rattling thunder in Belmont 5 mins ago, but only light to moderate rain briefly. Think main cell was just north of us towards takapuna.

Worth mentioning a warm day here today with 20C at Grey Lynn and 18C at the airport before the late afternoon weak thunderstorm struck. 7mm here.
Looks like a very good thunderstorm occurred in coastal Wellington.

yeah that thunderstorm had some loud claps. more thunder possibilties for auckland tommorow as there will be more unstable air. did get warm then the storm came cooled things down a littleNZstorm wrote: Sat 10/08/2019 17:09 Worth mentioning a warm day here today with 20C at Grey Lynn and 18C at the airport before the late afternoon weak thunderstorm struck. 7mm here.

Yeah, noticed how mild it was earlier... got 17.8C on the weather station, warmest day since 3rd July.

Very heavy shower there (still at home), half expected a flash but I know there's no risk here. There have been some periods of stronger wind gusts this arvo.

Re: Heavy rain weekend and very cold blast 10-16th August
Eased right off here in Rolleston, but was pretty heavy from 3-5pm. Could really feel the temperature drop, and checking the local PWS's it went from a summery 8°C to 4°C at that time. Wind swung round from easterly to a more westerly wind. Lots of surface flooding around town apparently.

Still a chance of an isolated thunderstorm this evening.
Thundery squall line possible later tomorrow afternoon. Isolated severe.
