Re: General September Weather
Interesting day here with a "Claytons" thunderstorm moving across from 3:30pm.
Rain over night with 18.5mm falling before easing away this morning and then becoming fine but with lots of weak cloud forms about.
Around 3:30pm, another bout of rain with a brief southerly change and a bit of wind. 3.4mm falling from this.
Clearing away this evening but some cloud remaining.

Re: General September Weather
Subsidence over the western Pacific on EC medium term outlook. The atmosphere is not playing the La Nina pacific ocean game at the moment, in fact it looks nothing like La Nina with the standing wave anchored over Africa and the Indian ocean. Strange set up indeed but explains the drought pattern coming back over parts of NZ.

Some good rattly hail showers through the night here in Christchurch. Cold tops still in the vicinity too. Not surprised to hear Porters Pass is closed by snow

Yes some convergence in auckland. actually unstable. metservice should have low risk over auckland too.
looks a drought beginning again which is so concerning. will this ever end?

Re: General September Weather
Weird, according to rain radar it should be pouring here, but just intermittent showers

Re: General September Weather
this convergence set up kind of snuck up on us. a few days ago it wasnt even in the models. now it is. low chance of a isolated thunderstorm. this afternoon/evening before clearing. perhaps its a sign of a better convergance season for us this summer as well?

Re: General September Weather
They are very high based storms David
I.e so with the dry air below some of the rain is evaporating

A fine day today. In south Auckland
Yesterday had a small thunderstorm with hail. Intense too. Quite a sneaky set up that was. And the CBs built quite quickly too. Pulse though,
