I see next monday has a hint of a change coming through mid afternoon which might post a risk of storms
Haven't really had many hints for awhile.
Could be an inspired call Mike! Still looks good for some storms on Monday afternoon/evening... potentially severe..? :-k

SE Central Otago is still suffering from drought conditions despite some recent rain and moisture
there is not much grass growth currently...
la Nina might mean a dry summer for them..but chance of inland thunderstorms?

Yes still a risk of thunder/ hail monday afternoon, but more of the risk will be inland Canterbury.
Richard might be in a good spot!

I dont think any storms will be severe Monday. Upper jet 500mb is only 15-20 knts. One major player missing for strong forcing as nzstorm has mentioned in the past.

Yes. Looks to be the only chance of rain for the month. Thunder risk Eastern south island tomorrow. Don't think north island will get thunder but some useful rain

A bacic outlook map at this early stage. I'm picking a moderate risk for inland areas Monday morning.

A warm and windy day here today with some strong gusts from the North to NW sector, this afternoon.
Seeds from a neighbouring Golden Elm tree were blowing around, which made it look as thought it was snowing!
Today's maximum was 25C.
Winds dying down later this afternoon with it clearing apart from some nice lenticularis and Cc forms overhead in the upper atmos.

I have wilting grass on the farm which I’ve never seen early October before and the water table is very very low. I also see I’m now more than 450mm behind average for the year. If October doesn’t get wet I’ll be 500+ behind at November.

^ I suppose the average will be maintained somehow, jamie, just you wouldn't want it all in one deluge, hey.

Very deep pink/orange sunrise sky just now.
Nor'west arch visible. 12.9°C.
