A fine day here with a maximum of 22.2C. with light winds this morning but during the afternoon westerlies began to develop, breezy at times.
Expecting clagg to roll in with the southerly change later on this afternoon or evening but nothing happened and only light winds here.
Clouding over later.

Closest thing I've seen to a 'southerly change' since I've been in Auckland sitting on my doorstep right now. Making me miss Wellington!

Evening convergence was a bit of a dud here, not enough to measure in the rain gauge. That wind direction switch from SSW to E at 6pm was unusually sudden, would normally swing round gradually or have a lull in between

Southerly change just arriving here now. Quite gusty, some weak mammatus just before the change on the NW cloud band.

What a contrast of weather in 2 days.
Yesterday melting in the heat and today I have just lit the fire with it raining and outside with the temperature figures in the single digits.

Very lucky there John to get that much rain, barely just on 1mm for Christchurch which was always going to be the case anyway.
A rather mixed weather situation coming up from Tawhirimatea, with a few low systems set to bring heavy rain to the west and north of both islands at varying stages, and occasional spill over rain on the plains.
Models showing some early signs of instability and open ridging next Monday 31st, so could be some isolated storms on the plains I'd rate it low risk being so far out.
Do I also see the roaring 40,s returning next week for the first time this spring 🤔, some big gales possible and then switching SSW by the end of the week also a time to watch.

I doubt gales will be in the mix, but look out for multiple days with thunder in western areas.

Judging from the lightning strikes in thunderstorms delivering flooding in the SE regions of thunderstorms in Australia, it could be quite active along the Alps as the fronts move eastward over NZ in the next couple of days or next week, depending on upper level development. ?

Really? Next week looks like decent risk of gales going by GFS anyway

Fine overnight and this morning but during the day, mid range to high cloud cover moved over from the west thickening later on.
Light NE but turning to a more southerly direction this afternoon. Mild though, 22.3C for today.

 Not quite a place, Tawhirimatea is the Maori weather god (Tikanga).

Some quite needed splashes of rain over the past 24 hours in Christchurch, not as much as further south but 6mm so far and a little bit more in the coming days.
Monday still remains in the models, showers developing through mid canterbury northwards with a thunder/hail risk.
Nothing too big in terms of hail size but good convergences should lead to localised heavy falls.
