The triangle is a new strike in the last 30 seconds. It points down for -CG and up for +CG. New IC "strikes" have a + and - inside a circle.
I've switched on storm tracking which appears as a dashed circle - not sure if the size of the circle changes. You don't get much info with the demo version.
There's about 3 times as many "noises" as strikes and I think these are when it's too weak a signal to work out the direction. The antenna is still inside but I hope to build a housing and install it outdoors in the next week or so.

Steven would it be possible in the next couple weeks Aaron and myslf could come out and looked at the set up you have?
As im pretty keen at getting a boltek aswell.

look at posting above,
I see thunderstorms forecasted for wesport, looks like they were bang on going by the strikes on Stevens lightning detector!
Also a strike by springfield!!

Anyone that's interested in seeing the setup would be welcome. Can't promise any lightning
The demo version is limited in update rate so it will be faster when the full one arrives plus it has the Java applet.
Dashed circle is where it thinks the "storm" is - it seems to need enough strikes in a short time in a small area before it appears.

Steven have you got the thunderstorm data for the west coast??
Hokitika 19.6
Milford Sound 15.1
Franz Josef 12.3
Westport 12.5
Hari Hari 15.9
Mt Cook Hermitage 9.1
As I have suggested, this data tends to be incomplete.
I suggest most of the West Coast would experience 20-25days per annum.

It's good to know that just 2 1/2 to 3 hours away quite a few storms are to be had. Despite these sayings of thundery rain I've never been there so I'd like to observe the storms over there this summer I hope.
What's your opinion of South Island West Coast storms Steven W? Have you ever seen one?
I've seen the tornado, lightning and hail reports so there must be something interesting going on over there.
Of course we've got Canterbury to, so things aren't so bad at all.

Aaron I have told you about the thunderstorm I witnessed on the Coast!! Went for hours one night!! Had about half dozen storms over 4 days!!

Time to catch a West Coast storm is in the months of November to January when there is a big moist NW flow across the Tasman/NZ.

The Tasman Sea Thunderstorms are usually not as good to watch as those Thunderstorms that develop over the land in the Summer but the great thing about them is they occur through out the year ,day or night.
6am in July is not a problem for them unlike the Summer build ups that die as the sun gose down.

Tommorow's cold southerly change will be an example of timing.
Probably come through too late for anything to happen.
Sadly, the barometer is a bit high, despite the onset of the developing low off the West Coast
Today's ENE, even though a cold wind, would be a good resisitant against a cold front especially when tomorrow's temp should get to about 25C here depending on cloud cover?
I hope we don't go into a "Thunderstorm Drought" - my worst fears
