Heres a couple of picks of the many Cbs that blew over at Papatowai.

The one with a paddock foreground is taken just south of Balclutha and produced lightning.

Some excellent photos there Stormchaser.

The convection looks the cold air variety and quite weak. Those type of cb's are commonly referred to as 'Coldies'. The instability is driven by very cold upper air over relatively warmer seas. :)

That would sound about right, On the way down (north of Dunedin) there were a couple of larger Cbs passed off too sea which were of much more substance. Only could manage photos of them from the bus and didnt turn out all that good.

Still at least one of these other ones did produce lightning so im happy :)
This one wasn't over the sea thou.
