MetService have the word RISK mention in their thunderstorm forecasts so that means they may not happen ...
... but the word RISK is not mentioned in drizzle forecasts?

Yeah and niether the drizzle or the Thunderstorms happend today in Canterbury but they might as well put a risk :) on drizzle happening in the east because from what I see I reackon drizzle won't happen just evening low cloud due to afternoon heat over land competing with sea.
cheers

Perhaps it means the shower cloud will only disperse rain precipitation, not lightning/thunder?

Did Christchurch get any drizzle today? I'd be suprised if you guys did.

Nope Not a speck of drizzle to be seen over night or today for that matter.
It's still fine out there now with no cloud at all and a light NE wind and usually the low cloud arrives about 4pm here due to that afternoon heating factor.
25dg here today recorded at around 1pm this afternoon so not bad in all out here in North Canterbury.
cheers
