A run of very warm humid days here, with the fog situation a classic which has occurred from time to time. In the middle of Jan 1999 when there was some action up north there was a lengthy spell with the city as well as airport being blanketed. Only a slight change more toward ENE is needed for very warm but less humid conditions, as per March 2003 or January 1965. The latter saw warm cloudy conditions over nearly all of the SI except Marlborough while W'gton was +2.5C over monthly mean and topped the country's sunshine.NZstorm wrote:It certainly has been hot down your way while the Wellington airport area has been cool and foggy. Good to get some feed back on weather from the Wellington area. We don't get enough of it on the forum.32c in Upper Hutt today...34c was recorded on Thursday and 29 yesterday.
Doesn't look too bad though. Eastern areas will welcome the change.the Bracknell Model Data showers cooler westerlies 3 days from now..

I didn't realize that the UKMO had shifted.rawdon wrote:Bracknell is where the UKMO used to be...for the past couple of years they have been situated in Exeter in sw England...the Bracknell model is one of the world fcst computer models used for long range fcsting..MetService here in NZ uses several models including WAF DATA(world area fcsting) from Washington...EC data from the European Community. BR DATA (still called Bracknell from the UKMO) and a good few else including BOM data from Melbourne and NZ's own CHAMP DATA..
I will try and put some examples of these when I return to work..I have a few days off now after working nights..

Crikey! That's bloody hot! I assume you are measuring from within a screen...I was not far from you yesterday and it was unbearable, like being in an oven. Imagine being in some place like western Australia in summer! :-\Andy wrote:Another hot day here, 31 already.
Hottest day of the summer yesterday and one of the hottest i have experienced in Alexandra. 37.6 degrees

Records do indicate average temps decline after the first week of February and maximum temp records for the North are around late January - mid Februaryrawdon wrote:Summer has peaked for the North Island !!! ???
perhaps for the next few days..but why do you make such a claim?
I would agree with you if it was late March but certainly not at this point..
You just wait for the next blocking high near the Chathams..

Interestingly enough last year's high in Omarama occurred on-or-around January 3rd (IIRC)...the average daily temperature steadily declined after that. I wish I'd been collecting data here in town longer.Foggy Hamilton wrote:Records do indicate average temps decline after the first week of February and maximum temp records for the North are around late January - mid February
I say this on the basis of temperatures, not "summery weather".
