Bracknell is where the UK MetCentre is and they have skantily dressed people modelling the latest swim-wear ;)
Part of this is untrue

Bracknell

Unread post by rawdon »

Bracknell is where the UKMO used to be...for the past couple of years they have been situated in Exeter in sw England...the Bracknell model is one of the world fcst computer models used for long range fcsting..MetService here in NZ uses several models including WAF DATA(world area fcsting) from Washington...EC data from the European Community. BR DATA (still called Bracknell from the UKMO) and a good few else including BOM data from Melbourne and NZ's own CHAMP DATA..
I will try and put some examples of these when I return to work..I have a few days off now after working nights..

It certainly has been hot down your way while the Wellington airport area has been cool and foggy. Good to get some feed back on weather from the Wellington area. We don't get enough of it on the forum. :)
the Bracknell Model Data showers cooler westerlies 3 days from now..
Doesn't look too bad though. Eastern areas will welcome the change.
A run of very warm humid days here, with the fog situation a classic which has occurred from time to time. In the middle of Jan 1999 when there was some action up north there was a lengthy spell with the city as well as airport being blanketed. Only a slight change more toward ENE is needed for very warm but less humid conditions, as per March 2003 or January 1965. The latter saw warm cloudy conditions over nearly all of the SI except Marlborough while W'gton was +2.5C over monthly mean and topped the country's sunshine.

Today there already seems to be a light wind form the northerly quarter so any fog issue should be gone, with the airmass less humid.

Summer has peaked for the North Island :( , apart from Northland and the East Coasts, but peaking for Wellington today probably.
27-28c likely today here, wind will bring it down like yesterday.
Only 20-24c tomorrow with heavy rain expected tomorrow here.
(up to 60mm from tonight to tues morning for Waikato and Auckland)

8/8, cloudy with an easterly. 24c :?

Summer has peaked for the North Island !!! ???

perhaps for the next few days..but why do you make such a claim?

I would agree with you if it was late March but certainly not at this point..

You just wait for the next blocking high near the Chathams..

Crikey! That's bloody hot! I assume you are measuring from within a screen...I was not far from you yesterday and it was unbearable, like being in an oven. Imagine being in some place like western Australia in summer! :-\

It's only 29.3° here right now, I'm happy to say.

Well we hit it. A 19 degree dewpoint this morning at 11am with 20 degrees, ok it was actually 18.9, lol. But, as far as I can see from those wunderground records it's the highest dewpoint we've had and those records go back to 1996/1997 (something like that). It might've been more humid in other times? I'm not sure.

Now it's nice and sunny, around 26 degrees with a 18 degree dewpoint. Man I'm obsesed with dewpoint! \:D/

A factor in the Auckland area getting temps around 30C over the past 2 weeks has been the very dry land surface. We have had some rain here over the past few days so perhaps we wont see that type of hot weather again here this year.
Good to see Alex got 37C yesterday, a rare temp in NZ especially with out the help from a fohn NWesterly.

Records do indicate average temps decline after the first week of February and maximum temp records for the North are around late January - mid February

I say this on the basis of temperatures, not "summery weather". ;)

Woah mann it has been hot and humid here got all fans going in house because it's that bad 25C in the house.
Got to 30C out here just on 3pm but cloud has rolled in again and it's now dropped to 24C but still very warm for overcast conditions as such.
Drizzle last night around 7pm very thick for a time in some areas but all evaportaed by morning.
This week looking unsettled start have to see what happens.
Cheers
JASON TIPPET.

Interestingly enough last year's high in Omarama occurred on-or-around January 3rd (IIRC)...the average daily temperature steadily declined after that. I wish I'd been collecting data here in town longer.
