33.2° and climbing...

Unread post by Gary Roberts »

Hottest day of the year so far, 25% humidity. Phew. I need a swimming pool! :-\

34° at 14:58 (.1° away from matching last year's high) and dropping now. But still way too hot. How the Aussies stand it is beyond me!

What's the max in Alex today, Andy? I bet it was even hotter! Glad I'm not in Darfiled or Kawarau. :-0

Gidday Gary,

I know I am the wrong Andy, but at the other end of the nth Island we currently have 31.0C with 57% Humidity... I have been milling pines all day but had to stop and come in for a ice cold beer, the heat is oppressive out there!!! Me and other local farmers are getting a shade anxious about the lack of significant rain this year, so far only 20mm since December 31st.... hopefuly some rain to come this weekend....

Hi Andy, that sounds like hard work. I've been slaving away over hot computers all day...and I wish I could have sent you all the rain we got this summer! There are areas around Omarama that are green for the first time in living memory!

Hey there Andy.

Yep things are drying of big time down here. Farmers are getting worried about wild fires, as a wet spring has produced alot of fuel, prob the most in 20 years.

Fire rating is extreme

34oC and 25% would be easier to handle than 31 and 57%
It got to 30oC in places in this district yesterday too

could be another hot day today, not so much cloud this morning, wind more easterly, could be some big cb's in the puke area

Dropped to 17C here last night very muggy night as well as the nights before I guess it's a case of getting used to it takes me an hour to get to sleep in these conditions.
But I guess the it will change from NE muggy conditions to N-NW winds and showers next week looking at forecasts.
Cheers 21C here now sun looking like it will break through soon.

We got down to 12° overnight (a nice clear sky once again, as well as today), 28.8° right now.

I'll be in Japan via Singapore at the end of next month...hopefully it'll be cooler there then!

34.4° and 17% RH at 15:09, which is a new record for me (but probably not for Omarama).

Once again people with glass thermometers hanging from a brick wall and in direct sunlight have told me "it was much hotter than that!".

I'd hate to think what it was in Alex today! And I hear Auckland is steaming away nicely today. :-)

This current spell of warm weather looks to be the hottest spell since 1999.

Interesting though that east coast areas are not getting the heat, rather its inland and western areas.

Friends in Oamaru often don't believe me when I tell them it's hot, dry and fine again here in Omarama! It's always cool, damp and overcast on the coast! :-D ;-)

Here in Chch we may not be getting the heat that inland and western areas are getting, but daytime temps in the low-mid 20s still aren't normal in onshore east to northeast airflows. Not surprising the overnight minimums have been the high teens.

Yeah currently overcast with thick mist and drizzle with 87% humidity and 19C here.
Sun managed to break through in long spells around 6pm but soon dissapeared with very low cloud and drizzle as I just mentioned.
Another Dito day tomorrow but Sunday could show some isolated showers about which is much welcome to the high fire risk we have here.
(Amazing after such a damp start to summer with December recording over 120mm here.
Cheers here's to another muggy night ahead and only one sheet to sleep under.

Another clear blue day here. And looking to be another 30+ hot day.

This would make it 8 in a row. ;)

Yep, and another scorcher has dawned. The nice thing is that the clear skies mean it's cool at night...down to 12.2° again early this morning.

I'm off to Wanaka today. I expect it'll be hot there too. I hope it doesn't make me cranky lest I start belting ropeheads with their own skateboards.

It certainly has been hot down your way while the Wellington airport area has been cool and foggy. Good to get some feed back on weather from the Wellington area. We don't get enough of it on the forum. :)

Doesn't look too bad though. Eastern areas will welcome the change.
