Ohhh, and I sooo wanted it to be "Prisoner of Mother England" (POME)!

Anyway, whilst I lived in Scotland I was born in England but have lived around the world since then so if I had to class myself as anything it would be British (or tech-nomad but they didn't have a tick-box for that on the immigration forms :? )

Hi guys - Bob from CHCH - ever since I was a kid on a farm in Northland, I have been interested in the weather - looking at getting a weather station to hook up to my pc soon.

Hi All - David from Cambridge. I mostly lurk on this forum, although have burst in to print on a couple of occasions...

Been interested in the weather most of my life, but being born and bred in the Waikato, have been sheltered from most extreme events. Do remember as a kid waking up to snow when living at Hinuera (extremely rare), but vividly remember the frosts that we used to get there... The frosts from a couple of weeks ago were a sharp reminder, although fortunately did not have to worry about frozen waterpipes like we did then... Used to love watching the summer lightning at night when later living at in the hills of Maungatautari (just out of Cambridge).

Have had my weather station running for about two years, but did have a rain gauge before that which was OK, until the neighbours kids filled it with sand...

I enjoy the erudite comments on this forum, as well as the banter. It also helps with a small weekend, weather dependent business that my mate and I run on the weekends. Having said that today's weather was extremely frustrating - looked like rain, so called the job off - then looked settled enough, so back on again, only for the rain to start one hour after the job started :( - Like my dad's hay mower and my wife's laundry - instant rainmaker...

Also interested in classic english cars (I drive a Triumph Stag) and walking

Spose I should really put a few words in here, have been posting long enough :B

Hi from Dale in Paerata.. kiwi born, Aussie raised for 30 or so years before doing a reverse dive & coming back home on xmas day 07, as a present for the lovely lady im now married to and known for many years via the internet. Born in Christchurch with roots in Sumner, Scarborough, Beckenham, New Brighton, Woolston & Heathcote, the next 3 decades spent in South Australia, NT (Alice Springs), a stint in Melbourne then finally onto Queensland (Jimboomba, midway between Brisbane & the Gold Coast) where my passion for weather really took a turn for the better. Enter the monster 40 000 + ft supercells which frequent the area. Am a registered spotter and field observer with the BoM over there & have been for many years. Some of the most memorable moments from the top f my head include being bombarded with cricket ball sized hail whilst out on a chase one day, tree branch damage to car(s), very close lightning strikes including a couple that have taken me off my feet.. probably explains my silly posts at times

Interests are obviously stormchasing, weather in general, atmospheric modeling and forecasting, trains (the bigger the better) and aviation (again, big is good) im a boilermaker by trade & have worked on numerous high rise projects during my time in aussie so on the self climbing tower cranes you get some good views of your surrounds which puts me onto another passion, photography in general.

The biggest interests are however my 3 boys & the wifey.. and the dozen indian ringneck parrots we have on the avairys here..

Heaps more to tell but I can see you yawning already so will leave it at this :)

Good stuff Dale, I have a mate who moved to Jimboomba (John or sometimes Lesle Macdonald). He gave up his long term career of panelbeating/spraypainting cause he got sick of repairing the hail damage. Impressive photo's I'm told. Tried to catch up with him last time I was over on the Gold Coast but ran out of time. Still known to yarn via Skype frequently. Man the thuderstorms & hail sound impressive. This year we both have webcams and man I'm looking forward to the impending season.

Hi Richard from Medbury 100 kms north of Christchurch in the Amuri basin ,my interest in every thing weather started from very young, like every one else here it seems i love storms, unfortunately where i live we only see 2-3 per year.
I dont have a state of the art weather station at this stage but would like one day to have an officially recognised set up, but in the mean time i have my temperature/rain gauge set up so as to record as near to accurate as possible.Where myself and my family of five live is at 175 m above sea level, 70 km inland and with three lines of rangers between here and the sea, this gives us a climate of hard frosts in winter and a average summer max of 30c.I grew up as a kid in Rangiora north of CHCH, there storms would develop between the west and south only and move through quickly but the Amuri area storms can develop from the north east right around to the south. Most storms that do develop in this area so often dont move in any direction and can die over the same spot where it developed.

I grow heirloom vegetable seed which i sell ,i'm also a company director involved redesigning hand shears soon to be on the market
