Been lurking for quite a while, and consuming the goodness of the forums, so thought I should post...

1) What's your real name: Ross

2) How old are you:- VERY late 30's

3) Which city are you from:- Wellington (tucked away from the northerly in the eartern suburbs)

4) Are you a resident in NZ:- Yep

5) What do you do for a crust:- Telecommunications/Project Management

6) Hobbies:- Tearing houses apart and getting other people to put them back together/ Mountain biking/ Surfing/ Real time Social media

7) How long have you been interested in the weather:- Many years! My final year of school, I wanted to go train to become a 'weather-dude', but that was the year the government laid off half the workforce. So I went and did a Bachelor of Technology instead. I have never given up my interest in the weather.

8} What got you interested:- My father getting me into surfing in the mid/early 80s. No internet with 7 day swell forecasts back then, so I learnt how to read weather maps (very well I think), and predict what was going to happen in the next few days so we could decide which coast we drove to in order to catch the best waves. Also used to get up at 5am (well damn early!) to listen to the marine forecast on the National Programme (on the 'wireless')

9) What aspect of the weather interests you:- The awesome power of the weather, and how we are just a blip in the way of mother nature!

Some extras

10) Why I joined this forum:- To be part of the amazing passion and experience that this forum contains

11) What I would love to see in NZ re weather:- Free real time detailed updates from the MetService (I'd pay more taxes for this to become a reality)

Been a long-time lurker as well, thought I'd come out of the works and say hi.

1) What's your real name: Daniel

2) How old are you:- 21

3) Which city are you from:- Tauranga

4) Are you a resident in NZ:- Yep

5) What do you do for a crust:- Air Traffic Controller at Tauranga Airport

6) Hobbies:- Sports, travelling, flying

7) How long have you been interested in the weather:- Have no idea...as long as I can remember!!

8} What got you interested:- What really got me into it was the 2007 swarm of tornadoes in Taranaki (when I was living there) and the F2 that went through Oakura taking out a house we owned there. After that happened I wanted to work out as much as I could and try to understand how it all works...

9) What aspect of the weather interests you:- The extreme events are always wicked-lightning, hail storms etc. Although there's nothing wrong with a perfectly calm day!

Also have a deep interest in geology, specifically seismology, and have been following that field closely ever since the boxing day quake and associated tsunami.

It was a combination of everything - but yes, after surviving 4 major earthquakes and seeing the looks of fear and dread on your kids' faces during that last big one in DEC, we decided it was enough...took us a few months to finally decide to leave, but in the end it was worth it. Plus our jobs were getting pretty stagnant and we were very lucky to be able to sell our house when we did.

We are now here and enjoying the lovely sunny weather (I know, I know - it will get hot, but meh, that's what pools and the beach are for!) Looking forward to seeing some decent Aussie thunderstorms! :-)

I just realised after reading though this thread that I never filled out an introduction when I joined. I joined when I was 16, now I'm 22, but hey - better late than never right. So here goes:

1) What's your real name: Figure it out yourself ;)

2) How old are you: 22

3) Which city are you from: Auckland. Have lived in Howick since I was about 6 months old.

4) Are you a resident in NZ: Yes, and have never gone beyond our shores!

5) What do you do for a crust: STILL a student at the University of Auckland, 2013 is my 5th and (hopefully) final year - doing a Masters of Science, specialising in Statistics.

6) Hobbies: Weather, outdoors, web programming, geology, trance/progressive house music.

7) How long have you been interested in the weather: Since I was about 12

8} What got you interested: A big storm late-2001, then got my first thermometer in 2002. I started keeping notebooks of records 2004. Got my first rain gauge in April 2005, my first weather station (cheap DSE) in 2008, and finally a Davis VP2 in December 2009. Set up my own website soon after in early 2010.

9) What aspect of the weather interests you:- Extremes, storms, long term trends and statistics.

10) What is it that you like about this forum:- Just about everything, it must be pretty good to kept me active on here at least 5 years! Cheers to you all for helping to keep it an interesting place for weather discussion.
