Aamzing US storm pictures by a Ozy storm chaser!

Unread post by Manukau heads obs »

Hi,

I have just placed links of The HP Beast tornadic supercell online at the
following pages. The event occurred on 4th June 2003 in New Mexico USA. We
remain east of the storm almost the whole time as it slips southeast. Only
once did we experience the Rear Flank Downdraught so we must have been
slightly south of it but then we headed east and back into the non-stop
inflow. You can tell from my footage here that it was shaky. I had no
chance of holding still even behind the car. The winds into the storm were
too strong and even though we were fairly close.

Earlier there was a tornadic supercell though due to road network could not
get there in time then we went after the HP beast

Check out the major inflow above us and the inflow dust as well as the dust
covering the base of the beast still to the west. Dust is hiding any tornadoes

More of the structure revealed AND check out these the roof of the mobile
home to our east is sucked off the home the storm never passed over the
house except for the vault region and hail wich was to our north. Inflow
winds damage

Structure stills

Page 5

After the structure video we had to move to ensure we are not trapped and
being hunted down by tornadoes hidden in the dust and also to escape the
giant hail form the vault region. We had made it through it in time earlier

Page 6

Infow remains well into the evening and into the night. How about tumble
weed mania we bounced them off and gravel as we headed east again under
the inflow and thick dust plume

Another storm to its north with lightning follows as we head back to
Amarillo Texas

Page 9

This storm as was suggested was inflow dominant and dragged the dust from
15 kilometres out along the inflow. It had as you see on page 2 the
thickest inflow band I have personally observed. The storm base as you can
see is covered in dust and hiding the tornadoes that were dropping down!!!
It went on into the night and we left it. Even then the dust was still
being sucked in as well as the tumble weeds. The video is quite exciting to
see. It was simply a hole in the sky!!!!!

Central USA has a unique geographic/climatic set-up which makes it prone to severe convective weather. Gulf of Mexico with its warm high dewpoint air is the energy source. Cold air incursions from Canada and
Jet Streams combine with this.

The main season for Tornadoes is late April to early June and storm chasers from all over the world converge on the region.
