I've been waiting for the above statement, or something similar, to come forth.
I thought you may of been overseas in the Gold Coast or somewhere like that when these predicted gales would arrive?

Its been really good without the gales lately however I suppose the SW will make up for lost time with this trough moving away

actually the wind is more wetserly up here and not gale just strong enjoy the Cb's dude this beats drizzly cloudy weather hands down

Gale SW here too, just like in Auckland.

I feel sorry for the poor little birdies in their nests in the trees.

A majority of then must of got blown out today

That's a pretty big generalisation John.

130km south of Auckland lies a place called Kirikiriroa. It is home to one of NZ's lowest mean wind runs.

Auckland airport currently has 26kts average this morning gusting 40kts.
Yet here in Ak city it is calm. I've checked Ricky's site and it is calm there too. The airport is out on Manukau harbour, a wind tunnel in southwesterlies.

I spent election weekend in Auckland, in Howick, central city and various aerodromes. There didn't seem to be much wind in the central city or in Howick, very much windier at the Intl. airport. Michael's moaning is obviously related to his living in one of the more exposed parts. I live in a sheltered part of W'gton near the Bot. Garden but work in a building near the Petone foreshore where it's very windy, esp. in a southerly. At the "other end" around Kilbirnie/Rongotai (airport) the wind is of course notorious.

Went out last night to birdlings flat see what gusts i could record. The top gust was 80kmph (same as last time, am starting to wonder if thats it's top speed on my aneomometer! it should be 120 kmph)

On top of the port hills 120 kmph gust were recorded. Might head up there next time

i cant belive its near clam in auckland city this morning
one heavcy shower after another here this morning, and winds gusting to 30 to 35 knots here allnight and all morning
and gusts to 47 knots at the farm during the night

yes, its a wind tunel between the waitekere ranges and the hunua/port waikato hills in a Westerly or SWly
auckland city is more sheltered in a W to WSW
but when it gets around enough to the SW, then the city central area gets a wind tunnel effect coming through the manukua heads entrance
so , yes, michael gets strong winds from the SW alot,but they dont actualy reach gale force all that often (which is 35 knots (65kmh) 10 minute average)
and so when he refers to gales, it should be read as a strong wind instead (average 25 knots)

More wind chill down there, 8C is not nice even in a fresh wind.

which is not too far from manurewa, and should be aplicable in a WSW wind
i am not sure how exposed the anenometer is, but is probably typical of a urban site
(i.e the airport runway is very exposed!)

WSW averaging 35km/h here (fresh), gusting to 54km/h at the airport.
Few showers about, 14c

Saturday does look pretty windy indeed.

I was hinting at one person who I don't understand why he lives there and persists on going on about persistent Gale force SW and horizontal rain that seems to occur in "Auckland" frequently
