A change is coming

Unread post by tich »

Looks like the blocking lows and highs will be pushed aside by Friday, and NZ will be under a westerly airflow, which looks as if it'll persist through next week. Good news for Canterbury :) (except for those of you that want storms), though probably showery weather continuing for the west.

Yes, it looks like a return to very early spring westerlies unfortunately, resulting, sadly, on warm weather for this time of the year :( :( :(
There's nothing looooming from off the ice, no major cold southerly outbreaks
Might have to migrate to Auckland and live nextdoor to Michael for some wintery weather :-({|=
....at least they get lots of thunderstorms there. :)

Ohau opened last week and are busily creating snow, plus they got some dumped a week or two back. They are fairly close to the main divide though. I don't know whether Round Hill or Dobson are open yet.

The thaw has set in well-and-truly on the other ranges though. I almost got bogged down on Benmore this afternoon. The Land Cruiser's new knobbly tires looked liked chocolate cakes. :D

I have recorded over 1040hPa before here. Have to check my diaries.
They either produce good frosts or good examples of anticyclonic gloom :|

Nope you can hear them in and around the extensive gully systems we have here on fine days :D

They'll survive further with some mild NW weather on the way ;)

In Blighty, the south of England has been looking parched for the last few weeks. They have just had a (very) little rainfall and things look like continuing with some more light rain.

Over The Channel from France to Spain and Portugal, they are looking at a record drought -due to a blocking system in Greenland apparently.

On our newsgroup (uk.sci.weather) it has been likened to the kind of weather patterns we normally see in winter. (But it rains here in winter.)

It's beyond me all that.

Interesting though.

It's an ill wind (or lack of it)...that same month Dunedin had record high sunshine, about 160% of average!
