might get more Drizzle than us but certainly have something to look forward to.

another nice day,,,amazing for august....the harbour was glassy smooth this afternoon..went for a walk with the kids around the beaches after school was out...

maybe this low forming on the tasman sea front will give us something to talk about, LOL

I thought that was a lightning photo before I read the text of the post.

No interesting weather coming up for a while yet, or ever ....???

Next week looks more interesting (ie in terms of true wintry conditions), but this isn't the 1st time long-range models have come up with interesting scenarios for a week ahead in recent weeks, only for the approaching systems to fizze out in the Tasman.

bob mcdavitt put it nicely in his week ahead forecast...that the tasman had become a frontal graveyard...due to blocking to the SE of us....(or something like that, cant remember now)

...yes I thought it was a bit strange going on about lows etc when it's been mainly about boring weather or 'neither,niether, nor" weather down here. The upper NI might of been copping the lows but we haven't?
If so they they have been boring ones.

Still to early in spring for land based convection, although I have seen it in August before. This type of situation from October on would be of more interest.

ECMRF is looking more interesting for next week with colder air getting into the Tasman Sea. But as Tich suggests, its early days.

Looks like a pool of unstable air crossing northern NZ tomorrow. I wouldn't rule out the chance of an isolated thunderstorm over Auckland/Waikato if we get some clearer weather which will allow some surface heating.

YAY!! Rain rain rain outside mix of drizzle and rain at the moment 9C ohh well atleast its sumthing aye.

Off to Mt Grey this week till Thursday marking track etc should be interesting probly a wet week but hey dats part of the fun.

13mm today and cool.. easterlies were gusty for a time. 25mm today so far in Rotorua!

August is proving very wet for Waikato/King Country..
60mm already here, compared with 19mm in Auckland and Whangarei and 13mm in New Plymouth. Eastland region is also proving wet.

Hopefully some electric stuff in the sky tomorrow!

Only managed 2.1mm here today.. quite disappointing really.. looked like there were some much heavier falls over other parts of the area though..
and only 12.1mm total for the month so far!
Clear night now with some mist forming in the lower areas..

No Way, I wouldn't move up to Auckland even if you gave me a million dollars to do such.
Fat too many people. Christcurch is getting the way, no wonder we are moving out into the country this summer.

Showers and possible storms on the way, humid but fine at the moment after fog areas. This should trigger convection over the Waikato this afternoon

There are also expected to be afternoon cloud buildups about inland areas from Waikato to the central high country, which will bring localised heavy showers. There is a chance one or two of these showers could turn thundery in the late afternoon, however forecasters consider the risk low. -MetService
