Weather looks fine for the coming week across NZ apart from the SI West Coast. Not typical August weather. :?

I should re-phrase the heading to mainly fine. Does look like a weak trough mid-week.

Another magnificent day here. Just a very light frost rapidly disappearing, and not a cloud or breeze.

I can't see much sunshine coming from this high up in the North...
Thursday southerlies after showers may bring some clear skies.

Agree Foggy, even potential for heavy showers mid-week however with the low dew points and cool temps this time of the year there probably wont be much shower development.

a dampish cool SW flow for us notherners
so far august temperatures have been colder than july temperatures (average, there has been some mild temperatures too), so its not looking like an early spring at the moment around here...

I must admit, I was putting a positive spin on the weeks weather by calling it fine. But I am sticking to my prediction. :)

Agreed. The week of cool southwesterlies in early June was as windy and cold as it got, last year we had hailstorms and all sorts. I don't think i've observed hail yet this year in Hamilton.

Fog is clearing the region now, fine here, no wind, 3c 8)

It ain't over yet. The end of August certainly doesn't mean the end of wintry weather, it's just that the average temps that go up.

I'll enjoy it for the meantime - a few cool nights is a small price to pay for 102.9 hrs sun in just 15 days here for Aug. - far ahead of the average month-to-date amount - one wonders how long it can last.

Easterlies developing on Thursday and we should see them through to Sunday with showers possible in the weekend.
Warmer than normal in most regions for the next week, especially inland South Island

Interesting comments from B. McDavitt lately on the MetService News site
saying that the critical part of winter is now over with days becoming longer and allowing for more sunlight etc. ie. spring is in the air.
Will that mean that later, we will have a good thunder season this spring/summer because of the settled weather we are getting at the moment :-k ...or will the boring, non eventful weather continue :-({|= continue right throughout ?

The weather is more unsettled down South Auckland way in a southwester. Cooler, cloudier and wetter than Auckland central and north.
The reverse happens in a NE'sterly.

It's a "scorcher" down here in the Mackenzie today! 17.5° so far, and fine.

Bye-bye winter!
