I'm pretty sure my own stations wouldn't be compliant. Do you know of a link to the standards, as I've always wanted to compare the data from my AWS and Mets. It'd be an interesting comparison, and allow me to see what needs adjusting.Foggy Hamilton wrote:Perrhaps it's just Andy's weather station doesn't meet WMO standards??

The forecasted weather change has hit Omarama. It's a wee bit cooler, plus grey and windy now.

Stuff.co.nzCanterbury fire ban as land burns
Sep 1, 2005
A fire ban was in place across Canterbury on Thursday as a fire continued to burn west of the town of Oxford.
The Department of Conservation suspended the issuing of fire permits in Canterbury for 48 hours from Thursday, and the National Rural Fire Authority declared a total fire ban across north and central Otago, and Canterbury for 24 hours.
The fire, which began late on Wednesday afternoon, has burnt through about 30 hectares of pine plantation, farmland and scrub since.
DOC said a team of about 50 people from groups such as DOC and the high country fire team were at the scene, along with three helicopters on Thursday.
The Rural Fire Authority said fire bans were necessary because of the number of existing fires and predicted dry, windy conditions later on Thursday.

A band of good rain has been affecting South Canterbury, according to the 3 and 6pm radars, some of the rain moving north into mid Canterbury by 6pm. Forecast has been just for some drizzle in Canterbury up to now. Still dry in Chch, though it has clouded over since later this afternoon. This rain could be the last the area will receive for some time.

Yes John, some sort-of interesting clouds from some low level instability.

If that's the case there must be conditions when the Taieri does no better than the city - records from several sites there over the years show sunshine is only a little higher than in the city, and sometimes lower in summer - more exposure to the SW perhaps? I lived in Dunedin for several years but didn't spend much time "south of the hill" (other than driving thru').NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:Yes, Michael from the southFujita Phil wrote:

Yes, it must be the period of 65 days that Auckland is without rain or gale south-westerlies
More settled weather to continue up there as well
Too early to predict but I tend to agree with 03 StormChaser that things may make change about the middle of the month, so enjoy it while you can
