Has eased back somewhat but will hit land within next 4-5hrs the eye will pass New Orleans and make its way inland before qucikly downgrading to a tropical storm.
The one Jeff Mackley is after Typhoon Talim in Bankok Thailand looks like it will upgrade to category 4 before hitting between Shang Hai and Hong Kong also another one behind it currently a tropical Depression and may upgrade to a category 2 later on.
Hmm if the weather fine here it's gotta be stormy somewhere

Latest I've heard is that it's been downgraded to 3, but that still means a mean storm. New Orleans hasn't scored a direct hit from a hurricane since 1965. Already some 2 metres of water has been reported in some streets, and remember the city is below sea-level (or so I'm told).

Jeff Gammons reports that the areas of Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi that he and Chris Collura have observed this evening are â€œunrecognizable.â€ Jeff described the damage as catastrophic.

The Weathervine crew, including Jim Edds, stationed themselves late last night between Biloxi and Gulfport at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. Their location on a sort of barrier island was within one mile of the shore. The convention center included a steel-reinforced parking garage several stories high, and a larger, fully enclosed coliseum structure as well as a hotel. Many other people also rode out the storm in this facility.

Jeff said that he witnessed storm surge more than thirty feet high, water that included debris such as cars, boats, yachts, gasoline, oil, debris from the casinos (including poker chips) and other material. Jeff said the surge arrived slowly at first, built gradually, and then, with the arrival of the eastern eyewall, increased dramatically with crashing walls of water and debris. The crew was forced to relocate their vehicles to higher ground several times. Many of the hotel guests pointed out their own cars floating in the water below, along with the seacraft.

I asked Jeff about the relative lack of video coming from that area and he said, â€œThatâ€™s because itâ€™s completely catastrophic.â€ Jeff and Chris are attempting to locate an area with power and food. They are currently eastbound on Interstate 10 approaching Pensacola. Jim Edds remained in Mississippi.

Yes very powerful left some interesting destruction did anyone see one news with that guy talking you could see a tree had fallen onto a house block crushing it.

Two new Typhoons Talim will reach category 4 but might reach Category 5 and another one behind it expected to reach category 4 also looks like Jeff is gonna get two Typhoons lucky guy

also i see that the levee has been a big hole in it, and parts of New orleans are flling up with water from the nearby lake...and they are going to have to evacuate people /patients from the hospitals by air now
lots of looting going on too
anway, i wont harp on any more, people might be getting sick of hearing about it already

I really enjoy following the hurricanes.

what amazed me was i was able to sit here and watch live TV nws broadcasts over the internet, and see it all unfold as it happened
the internet has made the world very small!

Although I didnt stay up with this storm, I did last year with charlie. Yes indeed the world is so small, I followed a couple of supercells this year via stormchase TV crews and viewing the doppler radars.

So when the weather here is boring there is always a storm to follow online!! webcams, doppler, Tv chase crews, forums, you name it! its armchair stormchasing all at your fingertips!

Perhaps it should simply be called Hurricane Katrina or even just Katrina. I can't imagine what it would be like for anyone callled Katrina in the hurricane affected area at the moment. (or anyone named Tracey in Darwin 30 years ago)

Maybe they should call the next magnitude 5 hurricane, "United States" then it wouldn't matter with names given for children

I think an alternative name should be given to storms, named after the area rather than a given Christian name which could become personal.
This could prevent repercussions later

Cant really see how changing the thread title can be confusing?? its not like we have a 50 threads to browse through on this forum a day!!

I just thought it was ok to change the post name then it would catch the readers attention

you see Katrina has now died out and yes we will be talking about the aftermath affects etc but its alos nice to talk about other typhoons or hurricanes and it would be silly to post up another thread just for a different storm it just happens to be there are several going on at the moment.

Another warm day today dg warmer than yesterday 20C lots of very thick fog this morning and again now but all in all iam really getting back into that spring/summer feeling again bring it on

Katrina has certainly hit the Gulf Coast hard.

New Orleans is supposed to be a crime ridden place at the best of times, not a good look there at the moment.

Taiwan looks like the next place to get hit hard by the weather with a Typhoon very close. I mention this as Geoff Mackley is hurricane chasing there currently.
