well i'm gunna throw everything to the wind and say that the upper NI may be in for some action come about tuesday next week (the 13th).

thats all I'm going to say at this stage

any thoughts party people?

yup, dragged for some scallops and got 15 big enough, and caught a gurnard too on a line

Scallop dragging is fun! Me and my uncle picked up a stargazer (monkfish) once, always interesting to see what comes up, including the scollaps of course! I caught a gurnard! I was actually going for Snapper in a bay in the outer Pelorous (spelling?) sound and I wound up a gurnard!

problem is that being in the manukau, it probably is a turd!

I'm thinking about having a crack for trout in lake Pupuke before my license expires. Has anyone here ever fished there for trout?

nah, now that the cities sewage does not go into the harbour, the manukau is more sparkling than the waitemata (especialy lately with the lack of wind (being a shallow harbour, it gets muddy easy)

Inner Waitemata can be disgusting for sewerage.

Best fishing I've ever seen is Cape Brett (Bay of Islands). Big Snapper .

Back to weather. Looks like we may get some higher dewpoint air coming in over the weekend. Dewpoints of 15C will turn the atmosphere conditionally unstable over the top half of the North Island.

Looking forward to some sun this weekend in Chch; it's been dull and overcast for the last few days, and mostly cloudy for several days before that. Plus the onshore airlfow has chilled down the daytime temps, though nights are still milder than normal. Drizzle was forecast, but it only eventuated for a period yesterday evening, and some slight stuff right now.

Yes, Christchurch has had a very dull September so far, judging by sunshine figures published in herald. Gisborne is enjoying maximum sunshine.

Warm front over Northland today is edging south. Will bring milder humid unstable air onto northern New Zealand.

Very dull but also very dry - only a few short spells of drizzle, and 1 brief period of rain on the evening of the 2nd. Today also dawned overcast, but skies cleared up, and it's sunny this afternoon with only scattered clouds.

A fresh breeze is keeping it cool, though.

have just been for a walk in newmarket and observed some chunky 'summer-like' buildups out to the SW and W.. all on see breeze convergence which is nice and summery!!

there seems to be a lot of lift out there, so i'm keeping me fingers crossed, maybe not for Auckland (well maybe a shower in the west) but for the inland areas.

anyone know what CAPE is today?

Just 10 joules/kg in Auckland, but 180 just south of Hamilton. Not very sound for thunderstorm development.

Lifted index is +.5 for Hamilton and +2 for Auckland, not helpful either.

However great T/Cu in our southwestern sky too

It's probably not going to grow any further.

Modeled GFS maps indicate what Foggy suggests however GFS has under predicted surface temps and dewpoints a little as I thought it would so CAPE will be higher and there will be LI's of -2 or so out there this afternoon, perhaps -3 but not lower.

The model seems to work in general better for the North Island, if I saw 180 CAPE forecast for Chch I'd be jumping up and down shouting horay! lol

I did these big posts on CAPE and LI once but can't remember where I put them, they have some good info.
