A Small AWS Network for the Mackenzie.

Unread post by Gary Roberts »

I'm planning to install new stations on Mt St Cuthberts, Magic Mountain and at the head of Lake Ohau, tying them in with my stations at Omarama airport and on Benmore Peak, then linking those with existing stations which aren't currently accessible online (Works Infrastructure's Lindis Pass AWS, Tara Hills Research Station, Pukaki airport, Tekapo airport, Mt Cook airport, Mt John University Observatory and Meridian Energy's Twizel control room AWS) for a dozen-station network covering the High Country.

They vary in elevation/altitude, from around 300m ASL up to 1,800m ASL, and will hopefully be of interest to more than just a few rich-kid pilots! ;) :D

I'll be funding much/most of it myself, so don't expect it to happen overnight. (*cough BenmorePeakAWS cough*)

I suspect it'll be easier to add new stations to the network than convince some of those people and organizations with existing stations to join it, though most of them have shown a lot of interest.

Sounds great Gary. Nice little project to keep you busy.

Let us know how it is all going, with some updates. ;)

How is the Benmore Peak AWS coming along?

The mountain stations should be online but aren't, due to unreliable contractors, a bit of snow, and my own procrastinating.

If this decent weather holds on then I'm hoping to have them uploading within 10 days.
