its those whatawhats hills and pirongia and koriae (not sure of the spelling, out raglan way) that gives the good uplift for the cb's

Mt Karioi I think you mean.. meaning princess laid to rest in english. Always clouds over it.
It wouldn't create much updraft at all since it's southwest of Raglan Harbour and sticks out to sea somewhat. Pirongia wouldn't either.
But the Whatawhata Hilllands would NW of here. High evapotranspiration rates are apparent all over basin Waikato, especially Hauraki where it's swampiest.

-Would be storm chaser's paradise over North Waikato, hilly in the west for convection then vast flat land to chase, confronted by the Coromandel/Kaimai Ranges in the east ready for orographic thunderstorms :P
