Heard thunder before, snow turned to small hail, been out and about with the scanner, camera etc. Turned up to a couple of reports of power line down. They were only phone lines down

Yes i heard thunder too hmmm cough cough SNOW THUNDER .
Snows stopped here i would imagine things will ease up for awhile till about 5pm then the snow should come back in as brendon said it's meant to return tonight lets hope it does could be alot around.
Few trees broken here cant handle the stress of the heavy snow.
Cheers
JASON.

Just looking at a loop. Reckon Dunedin might get another blast through the afternoon?
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Sorry for all the questions, but it's exciting.

Quite possible, since MetService is predicting heavy snow to 400m in the central North Island tonight, and in a southwesterly flow in which the northern NI is less sheltered from than a direct southerly.Hopefully some snow on the peaks of the Waikato mountains later on
No more snow in Chch, but the coating is still thick on the ground. Cloud cover has lightened, but still no sunshine. Alot of disruption in the city , unlike the snows on last year and 2003, both of which happened on weekends.

Indeed he did, BlueSkies outforecasted the MetService on this occassionDeano wrote:I think Tony has done an excellent job forecasting this storm as usual.
Temperatures in Christchurch may rise above 5 degrees this afternoon, once the main cloud band moves north and the sun breaks out between the cloud and showers.
Cheers.

I knew it was going to happen but if I keep telling everybody how are you guys ever going to learn these things for yourselves?Foggy Hamilton wrote:Indeed he did, BlueSkies outforecasted the MetService on this occassionDeano wrote:I think Tony has done an excellent job forecasting this storm as usual.

And the snowfall lasted for about 5 minutes, alas. The ground and air temp is way too high for any of it to settle.
