South-Hamilton Tornado F-1 damage photos
Here are a few photos I took after the tornado (apparently) after looking at the damage I gave it an F-1. Every time I looked at the situation the labelling of a tornado became clearer. Debris all over SH1. I did get a little bit excited.. at the time I had no idea there was a tornado 300m from here. I talked to the guy with the most damage on the SH1/Uni rouund about.. he said it was a tornado without a doubt, he saw it ravage down SH1 between Caltex and Hillcrest normal! That's Hamilton's busiest road incidently
Not the best pictures... I plan to get up early for better photo lighting and more!!
I honestly don't understand the poor seat here!

Absolutely no offence intended, but this happened 300m away from you, an ardent weather fanatic, and you didnt know? Were you asleep at the time?
The fact you didnt know about it says a lot for how small and well contained the event was, which makes it more likely it was a tornado, rather than a squall type wind. If you are out looking at damage this morning see if you can get a sense of which way trees are leaning or how they are lying on the ground, or what sides of them are most damaged. If you can plot this on a map, you may be able to confirm whether there is some evidence of rotation in the debris pattern, or whether it all points the same way.

Hamilton roads clear after storm
17/09/2005 8:10:02
The roads are clear again in Hamilton this morning, after a sharp and violent storm last night.
The Fire Service describes the storm as a mini tornado, which brought down trees and damaged some homes.
Pukete station officer Errol Newlands says they were called to a number of houses to secure roofs where tiles and iron came loose.
Mr Newlands says trees were strewn all over the road.
He says the worst damage he saw was a house on Cambridge Road, which lost around 20 percent of its tiled roof.

Here's a video i recorded during the severe squall. Not much to see, just me swearing a bit
Thunder in the background rumbling continuously, can't hear it very well though. A very poor video for a very nice squall
Movie_0001.wmv (just 800kb)

Hamilton station officer Neil Patrick said the couple of streets that his crew went to looked like they hit by "a little mini-tornado".
"There were two of three houses which had quite a bit of damage," he said.
"We had to patch them up and assess the area."
Mr Patrick said the bad weather hit between 9pm and 10pm.
"It was a severe little storm with really, really heavy rain, and thunder and lightning," he said.
"Then this twister popped out of it."
He said no-one needed to be evacuated and things were getting back to normal.
He understood that all roads were now clear to traffic.
"There's just a big clean-up for people this morning."

Police comms report of the storm tracking from east to west is blantly wrong, easy to make this mistake though!
