Yes, the rain has been a bit reluctant to clear here. That front looks to be slow moving at the moment now.

Rain arrived here with a brief squally Downpour.
In the photo, there looks like a transparent tornado. (ie one not sucking anything up off the ground) :lol:

Rain = was that ???

I get bored with reading posts about thunderstorms north of a line from Taranaki to Gisborne.
Thinking - :-k
I might change the name of my society to the NZ South Island Thunderstorm Society, with interests in lower North Island thunderstorms as well.

Great photos Brian!
I just happened to catch those mamatus at their best looking....was sitting having lunch, with some Irish visitors (only 3 days in NZ), and I pointed them out to them...they said they have never seen anything like that before....obviously they dont get very strong thunderstorm/CB development like we can here!

John, why is your signature appearing as the first line on your posts?

hey, auckland storm chasers, the Sunday program (TV1) said to me they want to maybe do an program on storm chasing in NZ...whadya reckon?

Should see some Thunderstorms in Canterbury later this week if you get the day time heating with on shore winds.

Cool and overcast here.
Some sunny weather here this morning would be interesting.

Chasing in USA would make an interesting story. Not sure about NZ.

The development of a surface southwesterly here this morning shifts todays convective risk east into eastern Waikato/BOP, maybe Coromandal too.

:lol: I'm sure you do! Too bad it's spring now so your going to hear much of the same from now up until about mid-Janurary, then central regions like Central Plateau/Manawatu will get more thunderstorms :P

Periods of rain showers continuing today, 14c with moderate southwesterlies
Fine break tomorrow, but evening showers, then a very wet showery, windy week ahead :D
