hey spwill, you must nearly live on top of Mt Eden at times

With the value of property around here I wish I did live on top of Mt Eden :D

The Mounts around Central Auckland are really great places to view those Cb clouds and you can drive up most of them.

Auckland midday sounding has 500mb temperature around -23C, lifted index -0.2. But cloudy skies and coolish temps have prevented decent instability.

Great photos Brian!
I just happened to catch those mamatus at their best looking....was sitting having lunch, with some Irish visitors (only 3 days in NZ), and I pointed them out to them...they said they have never seen anything like that before....obviously they dont get very strong thunderstorm/CB development like we can here!

John, why is your signature appearing as the first line on your posts?

Now that would be great good idea :D any ideas as to when thats if ya can get storm chasing thingy up on tv.
Cheers
JASON.

there is a gale warning out for marine areas, gusts to 45 kts
but it has not realy developed to anything that strong...i was surprised they put that forecast out...
the low has peaked now.,.showers are not as intense on the sat image (but northland got a good hamering), and the low has moved east into the BOP now..
