Oh u cantabs have missed a lot! Where are you??

Just on ZB from Kaikoura: "I have never experienced such heavy rain in my life since living here for over 10 years!" Lightning there too!

Nice RR animations from all dopplars :D
The Wellington rr shows Kaikoura much better...

Hope you enjoy cantabs, i'm doing this for you, asleep in bed oblivius to it all. I think these Kaikoura thunderstorms were pulled over everyone's eyes well and truly!
Cheers! :P

he he, i mentioned the heavy rain in south canty from what i could see on the rain radar in Johns boring thread at 12:30am...and i say the heavy rain over the top NE corner of the SI, and thought that looked very heavy, for having survived over the ranges there,,..it some how must have snuck through some gaps!

will be good for canty dairy farmers, getting that rain ;)
i would say Mt Hutt must have got alot of snow?!

squally showers here this morning
45knot gust with that front passage at the farm last nite :P

cool animations there foggy!

Cool photo spwill! Not much to photograph here..
Though some big Cb's with topping temps of up to -60c on the way very shortly!

Some fresh strikes being picked up inland from Raglan, and also south of Pukekohe. :D

At the moment, cloudy with shower, gusty westerly, 13c

yes some nice looking cold-top Cb's for sure, the few that I have seen all have fairly well developed mammatus on them too.

should be some hail for sure.

attached is 9:30am NOAA sat pic, its a bit old now but it does show all of those Cb's poised and ready to attack.

nice report on bfm this morning btw ricky!

it looks impressive on the sat image
but those showers are near me here now...and they are much colder, older and "tired" looking anvils...rain radar shows not as heavy rain with them
the ones this morning had alot stronger vertical lift etc
;) :?

Lightning strikes now mainly in western Bay of Plenty rather than western Waikato and Northern Coromandel.

Showers continue, squally westerly, a miserable 12c

Mammatus?
Brian saw them too at Awhitu :D

There's a chance we maybe rested from these westerlies as warm light northeasterlies develop on Sunday and turn easterly (for the AK northwards) on Monday. But this too is preceded by heavy rain, without the gales! I'm thinking East Coast of Northland, Coromandel-Western BoP, and Wairarapa later on could be in for some localised flooding.

Early days still. Still lots of rain tonight, Friday night and mini-cold outbreaks for the South Island, so the models will continue to change.

Cheers
