How good is Met Vuw... If they are onto it, there should be lots of interest up North...

The ECMRF model also has a cut off low in the North Tasman approaching northern NZ about Tuesday. As any good forecaster will remind you, a week is a long way out and models have a habit of changing. And cut off lows can lack the instability we weather chasers are after.

I would chuck that model in the bin.

I like the ECMRF. The ECMRF quickly came into line with holding the low back to later in the week.

the ecmwf is good alright...
but its only low resolution....so when the metvuw is in line with others, its good to show more detail/resolution....

I gotta ask... Whats this ecmwf thingy...

While I am quite good at picking the weather right, I only use age and experience... Can usually pick it 3 days ahead by looking at the clouds etc... Just for the local area of course...

I do a lot of fishing so want to know whats happening out there...

i think half the trick is to know which model to go for
the Bracknel is also very good, but its not publicly availble (normaly)

Metvuw use WAFS (World Area Forecast System).. but is this the same as GFS? (Global Forecast System)

From metvuw:

Our weather forecasts are based on GFS data from the NOAA/NESDIS weather server.

I think info displayed on metvuw will be same information that the Ready Models provides.

But it has difficult plotting parameters at 'surface' so it's good to set it at 1000mb

It is showing the southeasterly gales for eastern waters tomorrow really nicely!

There was another link, but i've lost it.. it's somewhere on the forum though..
