Achten, did you get any action with those TStorms around the Hawkes Bay. I could see the tops of one of the Cbs, from the other side of the Ruahines down here in Palmy.

Also, where abouts did you get that image from NOAA 18?

Some big Cu congestus (maybe Cb?) has popped up this evening just over or behind Oxford so similar to yesterday except we've had a little more temp and surface moisture, however the upper has warmed slightly to so it's sort of the same instability if you like.

You can just make it out on the weathezone sat pic, it might be easier to see on the 7pm weatherzone sat pic.

I'll have to check this funnel out! Didn't see the weather tonight, will have to fire up xtra.

Hawkes Bay / Gisborne has certainly had some action this afternoon.

I could see those towering cumulus (intermediate stage between a cumulus and a cb? ) lined up along the mountains as I returned to Chch from Akaroa late yesterday.

Gisborne city would probably have been under one of those cbs in that NOAA sat photo.

Not much action directly, but latter in the day around 5 - 6pm a large storm South East of me was very active. Spoke breifly to a friend of mine travelling south State HW 2 he was stuck at Te Aute. He said the water was flowing like a river and Hail every where, very anxious to get home to Onga Onga to see his own property. I will catch up with him tonight and find out details.

Re the sat pic of Noaa 18 is a specific Kit set reciever using WXtoImg software decoding the Noaa Sat passes.

21c and a day in paradise here, just some T/Cu and building Cu about the Kaimai/Mamaku Ranges and in the west about Pirongia.
Was some spectacular high cloud this morning.

Only now are the towering cumulus really building over the basin.. bases are a little high though. 20c at 7pm

Same weather up the road Foggy, fine day here , some T Cu later on the SE Hills.


I'm off to Los Angeles tonight. I see they have had Thunderstorms there this afternoon, may be more there tomorrow , hope so.

Just to note Cantabrians alot of instability out there with some isolated shower activity developing fast I wouldnt say thundery but there is some small CU out this way.

Looks like this forthcoming low will pass around the north of the country reducing the chance of any interesting weather here in Auckland.
And then looks like we are in for an extended fine spell.

Lots of shower activity on 7pm radar, but all of it about the foothills. Supposed to be patchy drizzle in Chch from this evening, but still dry in central city.

Yes Jase, I noticed that one the way to Morris dancing practice.
As the barometer is too high/anticyclonic, I didn't take much interest.

Got a light shower with few big drops in it around 8pm but certainly some ok forms of cloud out there 10pm radar shows heavy shower over North Canterbury perhaps more foothills area.
By the way I have taped myself from being on radio the other day so I will bring that along to the next CWW meeting but first we need some storms so we can have stuff to view at the meeting wen eva that is.

Blue Skies weather forecaster Aaron Wilkinson said thunderstorms were not common in Hawke's Bay but yesterday's was the result of warm ground temperatures and plenty of moisture in the air.

radar shows heavy shower over North Canterbury perhaps more foothills area.

Looks like it was over the Oxford/Mt Grey area, where the ranges are closer to the coast than further south.

After a run of sunny days, turned a bit sultry this pm with reasonable buildups but only the odd brief shower.

The NIWA prediction of decreased westerly influence is certainly holding here - Sep & (particularly) Oct have been very low in windrun by our standards.

Not likely, I'll be in Los Angeles then Virginia Beach on the East Coast, both have boring climates.
