Its currently Category 4 according to this website http://www.hewsweb.org/storms/ It was a Category 1 then jumped to category 4 within 10 hrs .
But will it get caught up in the basin again like Katrina and Rita did they both followed same pathways would the winds not get pulled around in that basin it seems there is some good development area in there as seen with past two.
Cheers
JASON.

Anyhow, 13 people already dead on the Carribean seaboards!
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... wilma.htmlHURRICANE WILMA DEVELOPS INTO AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM
Hurricane Wilma—the season's 21st named storm and 12th hurricane—became the most intense hurricane recorded in the Atlantic Basin on Wednesday with a minimum central pressure of 882 millibars. The Category Five hurricane is forecast to lose some strength before a weekend landfall currently projected to be along the west coast of Florida.
Biggest hurricane in Atlantic record?? Boring yeah right!!

Yes John iam getting abit like that too this weather is boring although it has been great to see some cloud build ups over past few days but unfortunatly its gonna be boring week next week of sunshine easterlies and or NW winds and no storms although i dont mind the fine weather and summery spring weather is nice I like many others In Canterbury are getting very storm sick and need some decent storms I know it should get up and running next month so here's hoping .
Actually I remember in December last year When Canterbury was getting a run of Thunderstorms I remember you North Islanders complaining of not enough storms up your way so what comes around goes around vice versa etc.
Hurricane Wilma cat 4 now indeed but will be cat 5 id say by midday tomorrow winds were packing to 280kmh on the inner eye core when it was cat 5 amazing keep eye's on this baby.
Cheers

Thanks Jason for symphasising with me. It gets a bit like that especially this time of year when the weather should be at it's most volatile.
yes. Indeedy there have been a few nice Cu forms that have looked interesting, but that it as far as it goes. Too stable an atmosphere.
Any, way regarding Wilma, the theme for this thread, this particular area does seem to be a good breeding ground for these cyclones and once they fire up, away they go.
Some places of the world can be quite volatile for storms and other places can be rather quiet, like here in Canterbury.
Mind you we DON'T really want hailstorms now. Think of the crop damage they do.
We will probably get storms next month or December. hope they are good ones and not too damaging.

If you'd had hot NW conditions this spring the farmers would be in trouble with the already dry conditions. Hailstorms wouldn't do a hell of a lot of good, either. Meanwhile we're loving the spring here with its light winds, mild temps. and a good dose of sunshine. My brother in Ch'ch is unhappy with the cool cloudy easterlies - too bad, a few years in Brisbane spoiled him for NZ weather anyway. You may get some action in summer....
